Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Readme

jevfanity

Typed JavaScript and TypeScript client for the Jevfanity moderation API.

The SDK works in Node.js 18+, modern browsers, and other runtimes with a global fetch. It provides moderation scores for profanity, slurs, harassment, threats, and sexual content.

Install

npm install jevfanity

Usage

import Jevfanity from "jevfanity";

const client = new Jevfanity();
const result = await client.moderate("Text to check", {
  level: "medium",
  threshold: 0.75,
  categories: ["profanity", "harassment"],
});

if (result.flagged) {
  console.log(result.flagged_categories);
}

The default API URL is https://api.jevfanity.app. For a self-hosted API or a protected deployment:

const client = new Jevfanity({
  baseUrl: "https://moderation.example.com",
  apiKey: process.env.JEVFANITY_API_KEY,
});

API

client.moderate(text, options?)

Returns a typed ModerationResult containing:

  • flagged: whether any selected category reached the threshold
  • score: the highest category score
  • categories: a score from 0 to 1 for each selected category
  • flagged_categories: categories that reached the threshold
  • level and threshold: the policy used for the request
  • usage and processing: model and request details

Supported levels are low, medium, and strict. Supported categories are profanity, slur, harassment, threat, and sexual.

client.health()

Checks whether the API is available and returns { ok: true, service: "jevfanity" }.

Errors

HTTP failures and network failures throw JevfanityError:

import Jevfanity, { JevfanityError } from "jevfanity";

try {
  await new Jevfanity().moderate(message);
} catch (error) {
  if (error instanceof JevfanityError) {
    console.error(error.status, error.body);
  }
}

status contains the HTTP status code, or 0 for a transport failure. body contains the parsed API error when one is available.

Custom fetch

Pass a custom fetch implementation through the constructor when testing or integrating with a runtime that provides its own HTTP client:

const client = new Jevfanity({
  fetch: (url, init) => fetch(url, init),
});

Development

This package is part of the Jevfanity workspace monorepo. From the repository root:

npm run build
npm run typecheck --workspace jevfanity
npm pack --dry-run --workspace jevfanity

Only this jevfanity workspace is published to npm. The API and web workspaces are private.
