Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

jive-abstract-resource-connector

A Jive abstract for connectors: resources that link Jive to an outside system (npm, Slack, a database). It extends jive-abstract-resource, which makes a resource a Convex component published to npm and supplies the scaffold, the package.json schema and the six CI/CD hooks. This package adds the connector kind and its CLI, jive-resource-connector. It is a library, not a Convex component itself.

This package was jive-abstract-connector until 0.2.1. Its machinery moved to jive-abstract-resource; the names changed with it (ConnectorAbstract is ResourceAbstract, runConnectorCli is runResourceCli).

Create a connector

bunx jive-resource-connector create jive-resource-connector-example

That writes the package, adds jive-abstract-resource-connector as a dev dependency, installs, and generates the component's code, so the result builds as it stands. The default component name is the package name without jive-resource-, camelCased (connectorExample here); pass --component <identifier> to choose another. Layout, codegen, environment variables and what each hook does are jive-abstract-resource's; see its README.

Kinds of connector with a contract

A kind of connector, such as a package registry, is an abstract extending this one. It depends on this package, which re-exports everything jive-abstract-resource exports, and runs the CLI with its own definition:

// src/entrypoints/jive-resource-connector-package-registry.ts in jive-abstract-resource-connector-package-registry
import { Option } from "effect";
import { runResourceCli } from "jive-abstract-resource-connector";

runResourceCli({
  cliName: "jive-resource-connector-package-registry",
  description: "…",
  abstractPackageName: "jive-abstract-resource-connector-package-registry",
  contract: Option.some({ componentApiType: "PackageRegistryComponentApi" }),
  scaffold: packageRegistryScaffold,
});

Limitations

  • jive create resource connector is not built: jive create does not resolve abstracts yet. Use jive-resource-connector create.
  • The connector kind adds no contract and no files beyond jive-abstract-resource's; it names the kind.
