Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Job Search Copilot Backend

This project contains the local backend server for the 100x job Copilot Chrome Extension. It is configured to run persistently in the background on macOS as a launch agent daemon.

Web Dashboard & API Ports

When running the background daemon, the server hosts both the backend API and the React Dashboard on the same port:

Note: Since the backend serves the built frontend statically, you do not need to run a separate Vite dev server on port 5173 anymore.

Background Server Management

To make the extension work even after closing your terminal or IDE, the server runs as a macOS background daemon. You can manage this daemon using the following npm commands:

1. Check Service Status

See if the daemon is registered, loaded, and actively listening on port 3004:

npm run server:persist-status

2. Stop & Uninstall

If you want to temporarily or permanently stop the background server:

npm run server:persist-uninstall

3. Start & Install

If the background server is stopped and you want to start/re-install it:

npm run server:persist-install

4. Restart Server

Quickly restart the background server (useful if settings change or to flush connections):

npm run server:persist-restart

Viewing Logs

Logs are redirected locally to the logs/ directory in the root of this project:

  • Standard Output Logs (general console logs, scraping actions, API traffic):

    npm run server:persist-logs

    (Reads from logs/server.log)

  • Error Logs (uncaught exceptions, critical issues):

    npm run server:persist-errors

    (Reads from logs/server-error.log)

Technical Details

  • Plist Location: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.jobcopilot.server.plist
  • Dynamic Configuration: The background service uses scripts/manage-daemon.js to automatically resolve your current Node binary location and project path, ensuring it doesn't break if you update Node or move the project folder.
  • Auto-run: The service is configured to automatically launch when your Mac boots/logs in, and it will restart itself if it unexpectedly crashes.
