Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

jobless npm

npx jobless

First it rejects you. Then it introduces an engineer.

jobless is a reverse ATS. The market has been parsing humans in 400ms. This package parses you, then parses the job post, then shows Yonas Alem — senior software engineer, remote, production systems.

The trap

You run the command. It pretends to be Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, or Workday. It reads a couple of harmless local hints (git name, email, laptop user). It writes a rejection letter addressed to you, with a fake ATS score and a pile of applicants.

Then it breaks character and offers l — paste the posting that just rejected you — or h to hire.

Skip the theater with npx jobless --resume. Record it with --seed=42 and --no-color.

Lint the posting, not the human

npx jobless lint posting.txt
npx jobless lint jobs/
pbpaste | npx jobless lint
npx jobless lint --fix posting.txt
npx jobless lint --format=github jobs/
npx jobless lint --tweet posting.txt
npx jobless lint --rules

Or run npx jobless and press l. c copies the last rejection letter.

error too many interview rounds
       max-rounds
       L3 Six interview rounds.

RESULT REJECTED
28/100
FIT overlap Senior · Remote

Errors fail the process (exit 1). --fix prints a unified diff and does not write files unless you pass --write. --format=github emits ::error annotations. jobless-disable-next-line no-fake-salary skips a line.

GitHub Action

Copy examples/github-action.yml:

- run: npx --yes jobless lint --format=github jobs/

Hire

The numbers have owners. Infra and performance: Mereb. Payment volume: client rails at Eaglelion, not the ledger. npx jobless work is three case studies. npx jobless proof is the 17-cron write-up. Production code is private; the walkthrough is the interview.

npx jobless card is the one-screen version. npx jobless proof is the 17-cron write-up. npx jobless vcf is a vCard. npx jobless why is twelve lines. npx jobless hire --to=manager or --to=recruiter. npx jobless tweet is 280 characters with no punchline.

Commands

npx jobless # reject you, then the resume
npx jobless lint file.txt # lint a job post (exit 1 on errors)
npx jobless lint jobs/ # lint a directory of postings
npx jobless lint --fix # unified diff (dry-run)
npx jobless lint --json # findings + rejection letter
npx jobless work # three case studies
npx jobless hire # email + links
npx jobless rant # the market
npx jobless --resume # skip the rejection

Post the command, not the punchline: npx jobless

Zero dependencies. Node 18+. Local only. It does not apply to jobs or send email.
