Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A focused navigation workspace for Joplin

Readme

Why Joplin Navigator?

Joplin Navigator is an independent release built from the original Full Notebook View project. It keeps the useful notebook tree, but adds a broader navigation workflow for people who manage large Joplin libraries.

This release exists to continue development independently and to ship improvements that were waiting on the original project. The goal is simple: make it faster to move through notebooks, tags, notes, and document structure without losing the current note or navigation position.

Features

Navigation views

  • Notebooks — Browse notebooks, sub-notebooks, and notes in a tree.
  • Tags — Browse tags as folder-like groups and open their notes.
  • All Notes — View every note in one flat list, sorted by most recently updated by default.
  • Outline — Extract Markdown headings from the current note and jump to them.
  • Live selection sync — Keep the current note highlighted and reveal its notebook path when selected elsewhere in Joplin.

Search and organization

  • Real-time search across notebooks and notes, including exact note-ID searches.
  • Search results ordered by notebook match, note-title match, then note-body match.
  • Search history and type/date filters.
  • Sort controls for notebook and note views.
  • Exclusion management for notebooks and notes.

Navigation history

The plugin records the selected note and editor cursor position every two seconds. Switching notes records a new entry immediately. The history stores up to 500 entries and suppresses repeated or minor movements.

When you navigate back or forward, the plugin moves through those entries. If the target is another note, Joplin opens it, then the plugin restores the saved line and column. A new navigation after going back starts a new branch and removes the old forward entries.

  • Use editor toolbar buttons, mouse side buttons, or the Navigate Back and Navigate Forward commands.
  • Configure keyboard shortcuts under Tools → Options → Keyboard Shortcuts (for example, Ctrl + Alt + Left/Right).

Note tools

  • Context-menu actions for creating, renaming, moving, copying, exporting, publishing, and deleting notes.
  • Toggle a note between Markdown and HTML markup.
  • Todo status and notebook emoji support.
  • One-click sync status and logs.
  • Optional title-bar hiding.

Installation

Install from the Joplin Plugin Repository

  1. Open Joplin and go to Tools → Options → Plugins.
  2. Search for Joplin Navigator.
  3. Click Install.

Manual installation

  1. Build the plugin and obtain the .jpl file from publish/.
  2. Open Joplin and go to Tools → Options → Plugins.
  3. Click Install from File and select the .jpl file.

Usage

The plugin adds a navigation panel to Joplin. Use the toolbar button to toggle it. The panel provides tabs for notebooks, all notes, tags, and the current note outline.

Right-click notes and notebooks for additional actions. Use the search and sort controls to narrow or organize the view.

Build

npm install
npm run dist

The publish/ directory contains the .jpl package after a successful build.
