Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Readme

jss-devtools

Dev-tools CLI for the JavaScript stack — scaffolds ESLint 8.x + Prettier + Husky + lint-staged + TS alias imports.

License: MIT Node.js Version

Requirements

  • Node.js >= 22
  • ESLint 8.x only (v0.x line - ESLint 9.x support planned for v1.0)

Peer Dependencies

This package requires ESLint 8.x and related plugins as peer dependencies. These will be installed automatically when you run jss-devtools init:

{
  "devDependencies": {
    "eslint": "^8.57.1",
    "typescript-eslint": "^6.21.0",
    "@eslint/js": "^8.57.1",
    "eslint-plugin-import": "^2.32.0",
    "eslint-plugin-prettier": "^5.0.0",
    "prettier": "^3.9.4"
  }
}

Quick start

npm install --save-dev jss-devtools
npx jss-devtools init

Supports npm, yarn, pnpm, bun (auto-detected). Cross-platform (Windows/macOS/Linux).

Commands

| Command | Description | | ------- | ----------- | | jss-devtools init | Initialize a project with dev tools | | jss-devtools --help | Show help |

init

Sets up: framework-aware ESLint 8.x config, Prettier, Husky git hooks, lint-staged, TypeScript @/* alias imports.

# Interactive (default)
jss-devtools init

# Non-interactive — pick what you need
jss-devtools init -y
jss-devtools init --framework react --tailwind --aliasImport

Flags

| Flag | Description | | ---- | ----------- | | -y, --yes | Use defaults (non-interactive) | | --framework | node | react | react-native | nextjs | | --tailwind | Enable Tailwind CSS | | --storybook | Enable Storybook | | --aliasImport | Enable @/* alias imports |

Smart detection

init is safe to re-run (idempotent) and respects existing setup:

  • Linter — ESLint detected → silent. Biome/Oxlint → warn + confirm.
  • Package conflicts — same-major → silent skip. Different-major → overwrite / skip / cancel.
  • Configs — existing eslint.config.mjs / .prettierrc.json → silent overwrite; other formats → prompt.
  • Alias@/* already configured → silent. Missing tsconfig.json → auto-created.
  • Offline — warns when npm registry is unreachable, falls back to declared ranges.

Generated ESLint config

import { eslintConfigNode, pluginReact } from 'jss-devtools'

export default [
  eslintConfigNode,
  pluginReact()
]

Framework plugins: pluginReact() (React/RN), pluginNext() (Next.js), pluginTailwind(), pluginStorybook().
