Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A simple testing library.

Justest

Justest is a programmatic testing library designed for simplicity and ease of use. It requires no configuration files, uses no hidden dependencies, and does not rely on a specific test command. Focused on providing a straightforward approach to testing, Justest supports TypeScript and JavaScript.

Features

  • Programmatic API: Write your tests programmatically, with full control over execution.
  • Minimal Dependencies: Justest keeps its footprint small, ensuring your project remains lightweight.

Installation

Justest is easy to install and comes with built-in TypeScript types for a seamless development experience.

npm install justest

Usage

Single File

You can quickly get started with Justest in a single file. Here's an example using TypeScript:

import assert from 'assert';
import justest from 'justest';

const runner = justest.runner();
const suite = runner.describe('math');

suite.it('should add two numbers', () => {
  const result = 1 + 1;
  assert.strictEqual(result, 2);
});

suite.it('should subtract two numbers', () => {
  const result = 1 - 1;
  assert.strictEqual(result, 0);
});

runner.execute();

Execute your tests using tsc and node, or directly with ts-node:

$ npx tsc && node ./path/to/my_test_file.js

Or:

$ npx ts-node ./path/to/my_test_file.ts

You should see the output indicating your tests have passed.

Multiple Files

For larger projects, you can organize your tests across multiple files.

  1. Create a Runner File (runner.ts):

    import justest from 'justest';

    export const runner = justest.runner();
  2. Write Your Test Files (e.g., math.spec.ts):

    import { runner } from './runner';

    const suite = runner.describe('math');
    suite.it('should add two numbers', () => {/* test code */});
    suite.it('should subtract two numbers', () => {/* test code */});
  3. Execute Tests (run.ts):

    import justest from 'justest';
    import { runner } from './runner';

    const test = async (): Promise<void> => {
      const files = justest.helpers.files(
        __dirname,
        (file) => !!file.match(/^.*\/tests\/.*.spec.(js|ts)$/),
      );

      for (const file of files) {
        await import(file);
      }

      await runner.execute();
    };

    test();
