Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Control your K8055(N) from your node.js application running on Windows. Non-offical helper package.

Preparation in Windows and Node before installing this package

Because this package works with native DLLs and needs to compile some things on installation, your system needs to be prepared:

  1. In order for this to work, you have to have the USB hardware VELLEMAN K8055(N), bought, soldered and connected to your windows PC and USB drivers automatically/manually installed.

  2. Then, because the DLL lib in this project is 32 bit Windows DLL, you need to have installed or install now node.js 32bit version (sorry, 64 bit wont work). But cheer, even on an 64bit windows system it works if you have node.js 32bit (my test setup). And very important while node.js installs: Mark the checkbox that says 'install also node.js extra stuff that enables you to do native stuff with node.js' or how its written.

Installlation of this package and usage

These steps are somewhat standard and I show you how to use the K8055(N) in code.

  1. Do

    npm install k8055n

    in the project folder and cross fingers that the install process with native compiling and all will succeed. Takes a little while, some warnings will be shown perhaps but as long as no errors pop up you can ignore the warnings.

  2. Optional: Once its done, you can try to go into the package folder under node_moudles and e.g. 'npm start set' or 'npm start unset' to see your K8055(N) lights go on and out. K8055 or K8055N work both with this software. I mean I tried with K8055 but the DLL is for N version, so N should work better than non-'N' right.

Example usage in your code:

const k8055n = require('k8055n');
k8055n.OpenDevice(3);
k8055n.WriteAllDigital(3);
k8055n.CloseDevice();
