Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

kaphera-vault-mcp

v0.1.0

Published

MCP server that exposes the private Kaphera knowledge vault (markdown + prebuilt graph) to Claude.

Readme

kaphera-vault-mcp

MCP server that gives your Claude (Code, Cowork, Desktop) read access to the private Kaphera knowledge vault — markdown notes plus a prebuilt knowledge graph.

Install

Add this to your Claude MCP config:

{
  "kaphera-vault": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y", "kaphera-vault-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "KAPHERA_VAULT_TOKEN": "ghp_your_personal_access_token_here"
    }
  }
}

Restart Claude. The server will clone the vault on first launch (to ~/.kaphera-vault/repo) and git pull on every subsequent start.

Getting a token

You need a GitHub PAT with read access to the private kaphera-vault repo.

  1. Ask Amin to invite you to the repo (or to share a deploy token).
  2. github.com → Settings → Developer settings → Fine-grained tokens → Generate.
  3. Scope: only abougsea/kaphera-vault, Contents: Read-only.
  4. Paste the ghp_… value into the KAPHERA_VAULT_TOKEN env above.

The token lives only in your local MCP config. The npm package itself contains no credentials.

Tools exposed

| Tool | What it does | |-|-| | search_vault | Full-text search across all markdown | | read_note | Read a single note by repo-relative path | | list_notes | List markdown files, optionally by prefix | | get_node | Graph: fetch a node by id | | get_neighbors | Graph: nodes connected to a given node | | god_nodes | Graph: most-connected concepts in the vault | | graph_stats | Graph: counts + repo metadata |

Env vars

| Var | Default | Purpose | |-|-|-| | KAPHERA_VAULT_TOKEN | (required) | GitHub PAT | | KAPHERA_VAULT_REPO | abougsea/kaphera-vault | Source repo | | KAPHERA_VAULT_BRANCH | main | Branch to track | | KAPHERA_VAULT_DIR | ~/.kaphera-vault/repo | Local cache path |

Updating

The MCP runs git pull every time Claude starts. To force a fresh state, delete ~/.kaphera-vault/repo and restart Claude.
