Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

kepler-appearance

v1.0.3

Published

Flip macOS Dark / Light appearance from the Kepler launcher. Install with npx.

Readme

Kepler — Appearance

One Kepler search mode, /ui , that flips your macOS appearance. Kepler is a native macOS app, so it follows the system appearance you set here.

/ui commands

| Command | Does | | --- | --- | | Toggle Dark / Light | Flip the system appearance | | Dark Mode | Force Dark | | Light Mode | Force Light |

Type to filter, e.g. /ui dark. (macOS accent color isn't reliably scriptable, so it's intentionally left out.)

Install

One command — no build tools needed:

npx kepler-appearance

This drops a prebuilt bundle into ~/Library/Application Support/Kepler/Plugins/. Reload Kepler and you're done. (macOS only.)

Permissions

First run shows a macOS Automation prompt to let Kepler control System Events. Approve it once and it's done.

Customizing the prefix

In the app (no rebuild): open Kepler → Settings → Shortcuts and edit the Appearance search prefix. This works for anyone who installs the plugin.

Default in source: the starting prefix is the constant at the top of src/index.ts:

const APPEARANCE_PREFIX = "ui";

Change it and rebuild to ship a different default. Keep it unique across your installed plugins.

Build from source

If you'd rather build it yourself (or you're developing it):

pnpm install
pnpm build # bundles into Kepler's Plugins folder
# or: chmod +x install.sh && ./install.sh

Then reload Kepler and try /ui .

Publishing (maintainer notes)

npm publish runs prepublishOnly, which builds dist/kepler-appearance.keplugin. That prebuilt bundle is what npx kepler-appearance copies into place, so end users never need the SDK or a build step. The bin/install.mjs script uses only Node built-ins, so the package has no runtime dependencies.
