Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

WMF / EMF+ metafile replay into neutral drawing members — a zero-dependency GDI record player (WMF placeable stream, EMF+ GDI+ records, embedded DIB extraction) for LeaferJS-based renderers

leafer-x-metafile

npm version npm downloads npm license

Zero-dependency WMF / EMF+ metafile player: replays placeable-WMF record streams and EMF+ (GDI+) record streams into neutral, box-local drawing members — pictures, shapes, paths, and text boxes — that any renderer can consume.

Browsers cannot rasterize GDI metafiles, so Office documents carrying .wmf/.emf vector art render as empty frames. This package reassembles those byte streams (including dual-mode files whose real art hides in META_ESCAPE "WMFC" chunks as an embedded EMF+ stream) and replays them record-by-record into structured members, ready to be painted on canvas or instantiated as LeaferJS elements. Consumed by @docen/docx's layout projection, which adapts the members into its LayoutDoc drawings.

Features

  • 🎞️ WMF replaywmfMembers walks a placeable-WMF stream (pens, brushes, fonts, DC state, polygons, polylines, rectangles, ellipses, ExtTextOut with per-byte Dx tracking, StretchDIBits blts)
  • 🖼️ EMF+ replayemfPlusMembers reassembles the WMFC-carried EMF and replays its GDI+ records (fill/draw paths, draw-image points, world transforms, DrawString), layered with the GDI-side text the exporters keep there
  • 🧱 DIB fallbackwmfDibFallback / bmpDataUrl re-frame the largest blt-record DIB as a BMP data URL when no vector replay applies
  • 📦 Neutral output — members are plain data (MetafileMember), geometry in box-local px, text as runs; no Leafer, no DOM, no dependencies

Installation

# Install with pnpm
$ pnpm add leafer-x-metafile

# Install with npm
$ npm install leafer-x-metafile

Quick Start

import { emfPlusMembers, wmfMembers } from "leafer-x-metafile";

const bytes = new Uint8Array(/* the .wmf/.emf file */);
const members = emfPlusMembers(bytes, 400, 300) ?? wmfMembers(bytes, 400, 300);

for (const member of members ?? []) {
  if (member.kind === "path") drawPath(member.d, member.fill, member.line);
}
