Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server for Linkwarden — read, search, and organize your self-hosted bookmarks via Claude

Readme

linkwarden-mcp-server

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for Linkwarden — the self-hosted, open-source bookmark manager. Connect it to Claude to read, search, organize, and clean up your bookmarks via natural language.

Features

  • Browse & search — list links with filtering by collection, tag, date range, and full-text search
  • Research — find bookmarks to summarize, build newsletters, or gather context
  • Recategorize — move links between collections, add/remove tags, rename, update descriptions
  • Cleanup — delete stale links, merge duplicate tags, restructure collections
  • Full CRUD — create, read, update, and delete links, collections, and tags

Prerequisites

  • A running Linkwarden instance (self-hosted or cloud)
  • A Linkwarden API token — generate one at Settings → Access Tokens
  • Node.js 18+

Quickstart (Claude Code)

Add this to your ~/.claude.json under mcpServers:

"linkwarden": {
  "command": "npx",
  "args": ["-y", "linkwarden-mcp-server"],
  "env": {
    "LINKWARDEN_BASE_URL": "https://your-linkwarden-instance.com",
    "LINKWARDEN_API_TOKEN": "your-api-token"
  }
}

Or if you have it installed globally (npm install -g linkwarden-mcp-server):

"linkwarden": {
  "command": "linkwarden-mcp-server",
  "env": {
    "LINKWARDEN_BASE_URL": "https://your-linkwarden-instance.com",
    "LINKWARDEN_API_TOKEN": "your-api-token"
  }
}

Environment Variables

| Variable | Required | Description | |---|---|---| | LINKWARDEN_BASE_URL | Yes | Base URL of your Linkwarden instance, e.g. https://linkwarden.example.com | | LINKWARDEN_API_TOKEN | Yes | API token from Settings → Access Tokens |

Search Operators

linkwarden_list_links accepts a search parameter that supports advanced operators:

| Operator | Example | Description | |---|---|---| | name: | name:"product review" | Search in link title | | url: | url:github.com | Search in URL | | tag: | tag:ai | Filter by tag name | | collection: | collection:research | Filter by collection name | | description: | description:security | Search in description | | before: | before:2025-01-01 | Links saved before date | | after: | after:2024-06-01 | Links saved after date | | type: | type:pdf | Filter by type (url, pdf, image) | | pinned:true | pinned:true | Show only pinned links | | ! | !tag:news | Negate any operator |

Advanced search requires Meilisearch to be configured on your Linkwarden instance.
