Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

LLM Intent Matcher

Given some text, like from an email or SMS, use an LLM to determine what the most likely intent is.

(Uses pre/post LLM scripts to reduce risk of error.)

Overview

Consider something like an email, or an SMS message.

Then consider a list of actions, like this:

  • Add to reading list
  • Alert me with a 2FA code
  • Add/remove from a specific list (like purchased items waiting for delivery)

In this library, you define a key/value set of intents, where the key is the intent title, and the value is the context, like this:

const intents = {
	'add to reading list': `
		the email contains a long-form essay or blog post
		type content and does not appear to be marketing
	`,
	'add to awaiting-delivery list': `
		the email notes that a physical item was purchased
		that will be shipped and delivered
	`,
	'mark as delivered on awaiting-delivery list': `
		the email notes that a physical item was delivered
		to an address or other physical location
	`,
}

You'd provide an LLM interface and the intents map, so imagine something like this:

import { createIntentMatcher } from 'llm-intent-matcher'
import { llm } from 'llm-intent-matcher/llm/openai'

const matcher = createIntentMatcher({
	llm: llm({ apiKey }),
	intents, // from earlier
})

Then you can call that with some content, e.g. an email or SMS or whatever else, and it will return the key from the intents dictionary. For example, a plaintext email from Amazon:

const key = await inquire(`
	Thanks for your order, Tobias!
	Ordered Shipped Out for Delivery Delivered
	Arriving Friday
	Tobias - Cityname, STATE
	Order # 123-123-123-123-123
	View or edit order
	Skechers mens Go Walk Max-athletic
	Quantity: 1
`)
console.log(key) // => "physical item requiring delivery"

LLM Provider

Currently this library only offers the following:

import { llm } from 'llm-intent-matcher/llm/openai'

However, you can supply a URL to point to any OpenAI compatible API and it'll work fine. For example if you're running a local LLM you could do:

const matcher = createIntentMatcher({
	llm: llm({ apiKey, apiUrl: 'http://localhost:8080' }),
	intents, // from earlier
})
