Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

lorex

Drop it in any project. Never explain your codebase to an AI again.

npm install -g lorex-cli

AI tools are only as useful as the context you give them. Lorex generates lorex.md files that capture everything about your project - stack, structure, models, routes, env keys, recent commits, so you can paste it once and skip the 5-minute explanation every time you start a new conversation.

For monorepo or multi-service projects, Lorex automatically detects sub-projects (folders with package.json) and creates separate files like lorex.client.md and lorex.server.md.

It runs entirely offline. It reads no values, only keys. Nothing leaves your machine.

Commands

lorex init # scan project, generate lorex.md
lorex update # re-scan, preserve your description
lorex copy # copy lorex.md to clipboard
lorex show # print lorex.md in terminal
lorex diff # show what changed since last scan
lorex info # print detected lorex summary
lorex --help # list all commands

What it captures

  • Stack - detects Next.js, Express, NestJS, Socket.IO, Prisma, Mongoose, TypeORM, Sequelize, and more from your dependencies
  • Folder structure - visual tree, ignoring noise (node_modules, .git, .next, dist, etc.)
  • Database models - Prisma, Mongoose, TypeORM, and Sequelize models with their fields
  • Routes - API routes from Express, Fastify, Koa, NestJS, and Next.js apps/pages
  • Environment keys - what's required, never what the values are
  • Git activity - last 10 commits
  • Multi-project support - automatically scans client/server folders and creates separate documentation files

Example output

# my-app

A full-stack social platform with real-time notifications

## Stack
- Next.js, Prisma, PostgreSQL, Socket.IO

## Folder Structure
├── app/
│ ├── layout.tsx
│ └── api/route.ts
├── prisma/schema.prisma
└── package.json

## Database Models
### User
- id, email, name, createdAt

## Routes
- /api/users
- /api/posts

## Environment Keys
- DATABASE_URL
- NEXTAUTH_SECRET

## Recent Git Activity
- feat: add real-time notifications
- fix: session token expiry

Stack detection

| Dependency | Detected as | |---|---| | next | Next.js | | express | Express | | @nestjs/core | NestJS | | socket.io | Socket.IO | | @prisma/client | Prisma | | mongoose | MongoDB |

Notes

  • lorex.md is gitignored by default - no merge conflicts
  • Running lorex update preserves your one-line description, rescans everything else
  • Works with any Node.js project, zero config required
