Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vectoraster 7.1.2

you might expect that one of the main uses of vectoraster should be to create halftone effects from photographic sources. but this is vectorasters weakest area: youre only able to apply a single, uniform effect to each image, rather than creating multidirectional strokes based on image density. while its still capable of producing striking images, theres no way to simulate true victorian engraving styles.

vectoraster also doesnt make it easy to get a sense of what the final result will look like. it doesnt provide the ability to save the settings and quickly load a preset as you go, and it doesnt offer any real help in selecting the right settings. the controls are also complicated and can be hard to understand.

while these are all issues that could be fixed with a bit of polish, they dont detract from the strong results vectoraster can produce. as a vector graphics app, it offers a lot of power and flexibility that isnt typically found in other tools. for example, you can quickly switch to a second image to create a unique pattern or create patterns from a mix of different patterns. vectoraster is easy to use and powerful enough to produce strong results.

what i do like about vectoraster is that it offers a ton of features and controls to really customize the end result. the editor is simple to use and is the only app i found that allows you to import images into the app, allowing you to create custom patterns.

lost minds has recently released vectoraster 3, the third iteration of a handy application for os x that takes images and instantly converts them into vector halftones that can be exported and opened in almost any vector editor. i wrote about vectoraster a while ago, and version 3 is quicker and has a couple cool new features, one of which i want to show you right now. 84d34552a1
