Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Unofficial MCP server for loot-drop.io — The Startup Graveyard: search 1700+ dead startups, their causes of death, lessons (the loot), and AI-generated rebuild/pivot plans

Readme

mcp-lootdrop

Unofficial, read-only Model Context Protocol server for loot-drop.ioThe Startup Graveyard.

Gives AI agents structured access to 1 700+ dead startups: their causes of death, the lessons they left behind (the loot), failure clustering, and AI-generated rebuild / pivot plans (concept, MVP steps, tech stack, revenue model).

It consumes the same public API (Supabase REST + Row-Level Security) that the loot-drop.io website itself uses from the browser — no scraping, no writes.

Install

npm install -g mcp-lootdrop
# or run on demand:
npx -y mcp-lootdrop

Use with Claude Code / Desktop

Add to your MCP config (~/.claude/settings.jsonmcpServers, or Claude Desktop config):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mcp-lootdrop": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-lootdrop"]
    }
  }
}

Tools

| Tool | What it does | | --- | --- | | lootdrop_diagnose | Check API connectivity + row counts | | search_startups | Full-text + filters (sector, country, cause, product type, funding, years), sortable, paginated | | get_startup | Full post-mortem of one startup (by id or name) | | list_rebuild_ideas | AI-generated rebuild/pivot plans, filterable | | failure_landscape | Failure clustering (normalized problems, bottleneck tags) | | graveyard_stats | Aggregates: counts or burned capital by sector/cause/product/country | | random_loot | One random dead startup (optionally filtered) | | top_startups | Ranked by burned capital or views | | list_facets | Distinct values for a facet, to guide filtering |

Configuration (optional)

All optional — sensible public defaults are built in.

| Env var | Default | Purpose | | --- | --- | --- | | LOOTDROP_SUPABASE_URL | loot-drop's public URL | Override the data source | | LOOTDROP_SUPABASE_KEY | loot-drop's public publishable key | Override the public key (e.g. if rotated) | | LOOTDROP_CACHE_TTL_MS | 300000 | In-memory cache TTL | | LOOTDROP_TIMEOUT_MS | 15000 | Per-request timeout |

Develop

npm install
npm run dev # run from TypeScript
npm run build # compile to dist/
npm test # real integration tests against the public API
npm run inspect # MCP Inspector

Disclaimer

mcp-lootdrop is an independent, unofficial project and is not affiliated with loot-drop.io. It is read-only. The underlying content is AI-assisted and provided "as-is" without warranty of accuracy or completeness. If the upstream API key is rotated or the schema changes, override via the env vars above.
