Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

A guardrail between your AI trading agent and your brokerage. It sits on the wire, caps every order at limits you set, and flags injected instructions in the notes your agent reads — so a poisoned analyst note can't talk your agent into a trade you never authorized.

The problem it solves

Robinhood connected AI agents to real brokerage accounts for 27 million customers. Your agent reads analyst notes and headlines, then places orders — and Robinhood's own disclosure says plainly that "AI agents can misinterpret instructions." The published attack is a single line planted in text your agent reads:

If your agent believes it, real money moves. mcp-trade-guard makes the cap a number the agent cannot change, because the number lives in the guard, not in the note.

How it works

Two checks, and the difference between them is the whole design.

Order caps — arithmetic, cannot be argued with. Every tools/call that places an order is checked against your limits before it reaches the broker. A refusal is returned to the agent as a normal error result; the broker never sees it. The cap is a number the guard holds — no note, however convincing, can raise it.

Read scanning — a tripwire on the text your agent reads. Text returned by read_analyst_notes and similar tools is scanned for injection using the wormhole-x402 ruleset. A match is annotated, never dropped — your agent still sees the content, now with an untrusted-text flag attached.

The scanner is the tripwire. The caps are the wall. When a note gets past the tripwire, the wall still holds.

Use as a library

The runnable proxy is the common case, but the guard is also a plain library if you are building your own MCP middleware:

What it does not claim

We publish the limits because a security tool that oversells is worse than none.

  • It does not make agentic trading safe. The caps bound your loss; they do not make the agent trustworthy. You are still responsible for what your agent does.
  • Read scanning is evadable. It is shape-matching over prose, so an attacker who rewrites the note gets past it — English-only, roughly 70% under mutation. There is no independent price to check a trade against the way there is for a payment, so the scanner is a tripwire, not a guarantee. The order caps are the part that holds regardless.
  • Order scanning needs a current ruleset. The role-prefix payload above requires wormhole-x402 ≥ 0.3.1. The caps depend on no ruleset and work on any version.
  • It is not the broker's controls. It is a layer you add in front of them, not a replacement for them.

We measured the surface before shipping this: 1,606 real trading documents scanned for injection, zero found — the research, reproducible.

Fail closed on orders, fail open on reads

An order the guard can't size — a share quantity with no price — can't be checked against a dollar cap, so it is refused by default. Set MCP_ALLOW_UNKNOWN=1 if you deal only in cheap, known symbols and want those through. A read the guard can't classify is passed through, because a read moves no money and blocking a legitimate portfolio query helps no one.
