Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Active Directory SSO for Meteor

Active Directory Single Sign On Authentication and Authorization for Meteor

IIS SSO component

This component runs inside Internet Information Server on a Microsoft Windows domain. It uses Tomasz Janczuk's iisnode to integrate the node process with IIS. IIS handles Windows Authentication using the negotiate protocol. Once this authentication is complete, the authenticated user information and a token will be passed to the appropriate Meteor server.

The same iisnode component may serve multiple Meteor applications.

Install

  • Install IIS and iisnode (instructions)
  • Install the IIS rewrite module if not already done.
  • Get the iisnode component folder into a directory on the IIS server (e.x. npm install meteor-ad-sso )
  • Configure config.json as instructed below
  • Adjust any firewalls needed. IIS server must be able to HTTP post to Meteor server
  • From the IIS manager, add a new site and point it to the iisnode folder.
  • Configure IIS to require Windows Authentication and disable Anonymous Authentication.

Configuration

Configuration is set in config.json.

{
  "basePath" : "auth",
  "apps" : {
    "default"   : "http://10.0.100.1:3000/ssoauth",
    "messaging" : "http://10.0.100.2:3000/ssoauth"
  },
  "debug" : false,
  "serverToken" : "5c292f53-3e7e-4d65-89f6-6f316d9b26df"
}

basePath is used to determine the iisnode path. Adjust this to avoid path conflicts as needed.

apps is an object used to determine which Meteor server to notify when a successful Windows Authentication has been established. Each app should have a unique name, and a path to that Meteor app, to notify it.

debug enables some console.loging which can be viewed at http://server/basepath/iisnode.
