Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Mirum Float Labels Build Status

This module provides a way to do those fancy form control labels that move out of the way when the form control gets focus.

float-label example image

The module just requires importing the sass and javascript files. The sass file contains some default colors which can be overwritten.

Installation

Simply use NPM to install the module into your project

npm install --save-dev mirum-float-label

Usage

HTML

The module expects certain HTML. You will need to wrap your form control and label inside a div container. The order of the form control and label doesn't matter since the label is positioned absolutely.

<div class="float-label">
    <input class="float-label__input" type="text" id="fName" placeholder="First Name">
    <label class="float-label__label" for="fName">First Name</label>
</div>

<div class="float-label">
    <input class="float-label__input" type="text" id="lName">
    <label class="float-label__label" for="lName">Last Name</label>
</div>

Sass

If you want to use the default styles as a starting point for your styles just import the sass file.

@import 'float-label';

There a few sass variables that you can update to override with your own styling

  • $fl-color-border: #bababa !default;
  • $fl-color-error: #f31151 !default;
  • $fl-color-label: #868686 !default;
  • $fl-color-focus: #0096bd !default;
  • $fl-color-background: #fff !default;
  • $fl-font-size: 18px !default;

The classes in the sass default to BEM syntax (see HTML example above). If you would like to use different classes in your HTML here are the sass variables to update.

$fl-has-focus: '&--has-focus';
$fl-has-value: '&--has-value';
$fl-has-error: '&--has-error';

Once you have the variables as you want them simply call the mixin inside the selector that you want to use.

.float-label {
    @include mirum-float-labels();
}

Javascript

This is an ES2015 (ES6) module. So just import it as you need and call the function.

import floatLabel from 'float-label';

window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function () {
    floatLabel();
});

Browser version

If you are doing a build without using javascript modules there is a browser friendly version of this module that you can use. You can include it into your page with a regular <script> tag.

<script src="float-label.browser.js"></script>

There is also a minified version, float-label.browser.min.js,
