Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

mongoose-graphql-codegen

v1.2.26

Published

A CLI tool to automatically generate GraphQL schemas and resolvers from Mongoose models.

Readme

mongoose-graphql-codegen

Generate GraphQL schema and resolvers automatically from Mongoose models — supports BSON types and advanced validation.

✨ Features

  • Generates .graphql type definitions
  • Creates resolvers with status code-aware GraphQL errors
  • Supports both JavaScript (CommonJS) and TypeScript
  • Handles BSON/extended scalar types: Decimal, Long, Date, UUID, Base64, etc.

📦 Installation

Install via npm

npm install -D mongoose-graphql-codegen

🧠 Example Mongoose Model

// models/User.js
const mongoose = require('mongoose');
const bcrypt = require('bcrypt');

const userSchema = new mongoose.Schema({
  name: { type: String, required: true },
  email: { type: String, required: true, unique: true },
  password: { type: String, required: true, minlength: 6 },
  roles: {
    type: [String],
    enum: ['user', 'admin', 'moderator'],
    default: ['user']
  },
  status: {
    type: String,
    enum: ['active', 'inactive', 'banned'],
    default: 'active'
  },
  lastLogin: Date
});

userSchema.pre('save', async function (next) {
  if (!this.isModified('password')) return next();
  const salt = await bcrypt.genSalt(10);
  this.password = await bcrypt.hash(this.password, salt);
  next();
});

userSchema.methods.comparePassword = async function (candidatePassword) {
  return bcrypt.compare(candidatePassword, this.password);
};

module.exports = mongoose.model('User', userSchema);

⚙️ Usage

TypeScript Generate for all models in the models directory

npx mongoose-graphql-codegen

Javascript Generate for all models in the models directory

npx mongoose-graphql-codegen js=true

JavaScript (CommonJS) graphql-codegen generate for a single Mongoose model

npx mongoose-graphql-codegen model=./models/User.js js=true

📁 Output Structure

After generation:

graphql-codegen/
  user/
    User.graphql
    UserResolver.js / .ts
  index.ts
  scalarResolvers.js / .ts

🛠 Integrate into Apollo GraphQL Server

//<filename>.js
const { ApolloServer } = require('@apollo/server');
const {typeDefs,resolvers} = require('../graphql-codegen')

async function createApolloServer() {
  const server = new ApolloServer({
    typeDefs,
    resolvers
  });
  await server.start();
  return server;
}

module.exports = createApolloServer;

// server.js
const bodyParser = require('body-parser');
const { expressMiddleware } = require('@apollo/server/express4');
const createApolloServer = require('./graphql/server');
(async () => {
const apolloServer = await createApolloServer();
app.use('/graphql', bodyParser.json(), expressMiddleware(apolloServer));
})();

// Use in ApolloServer, Mercurius, Yoga, etc.
