Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

📦 my-utils-kit

A lightweight utility toolkit built with TypeScript, offering a collection of Performance, ViewPort, string, object, and array helper methods for everyday JavaScript/TypeScript development.

✨ Features

  • ✅ TypeScript support with full type safety
  • 🧠 Useful Performance, viewport, string, object, and array manipulation utilities
  • 🔁 Deep clone, deep merge, flatten/unflatten, and more
  • 🔍 Tiny, modular, and easy to use
  • 🧪 Easy to test and extend

📦 Installation

npm install my-utils-kit
# or
yarn add my-utils-kit

🚀 Usage

import { camelCase, deepCloneObj, groupBy } from 'my-utils-kit';

console.log(deepCloneObj({ a: 1 }));           // ➜ { a: 1 }
console.log(groupBy([{ type: 'fruit', name: 'apple' }], 'type'));

🚀 Performance Utilities

import { debounce, throttle, OperationBatcher, memoize } from 'my-utils-kit';

// ---------- 1. DEBOUNCE ----------
function handleInput(event: Event) {
  const input = (event.target as HTMLInputElement).value;
  console.log('Debounced Input:', input);
}

const debouncedInput = debounce(handleInput, 300);

document
  .getElementById('searchInput')
  ?.addEventListener('input', debouncedInput);

// ---------- 2. THROTTLE ----------
function onScroll() {
  console.log('Throttled scroll triggered');
}

const throttledScroll = throttle(onScroll, 200);

window.addEventListener('scroll', throttledScroll);

// ---------- 3. BATCH ----------
// Create an instance of the batcher
const batcher = new OperationBatcher(200); // 200ms delay between flushes

// Enqueue async or sync operations
batcher.enqueueOperation(() => apiCall1());
batcher.enqueueOperation(() => apiCall2());

// Example function definitions (for demonstration)
function apiCall1() {
  console.log('API Call 1 triggered');
}

function apiCall2() {
  console.log('API Call 2 triggered');
}

// ---------- 4. MEMOIZE ----------
function expensiveCalc(n: number): number {
  console.log('Computing...');
  return n * n;
}

const memoizedCalc = memoize(expensiveCalc);

console.log(memoizedCalc(5)); // Computes
console.log(memoizedCalc(5)); // Cached

// ----------5. loadScriptOnUserEvent -------

loadScriptOnUserEvent('https://example.com/analytics.js', {
  events: ['click', 'keydown'],
  timeout: 8000,
});

// ----------6. runCallbackOnUserEvent -------

runCallbackOnUserEvent(() => {
  callback()
}, {
  events: ['click', 'keydown'],
  timeout: 7000,
});

// ----------7. observeElementOnIntersect -------

observeElementOnIntersect('.track-on-view', { threshold: 0.4 }, (entry) => {
  entry.target.classList.add('visible');
  console.log('Intersected:', entry.target);
});

// ----------8. Current Screen Size -------

import { getScreenSize } from 'my-utils-kit';
const size = getScreenSize();
console.log(size); // e.g., "md"

📚 API Overview

✅ Function(Performance) Utilities

  • debounce(fn,delay,immediate=false)
  • throttle(fn,delay,immediate=false)
  • memoize(expensiveCalc)
  • new OperationBatcher()
  • loadScriptOnUserEvent(src,options)
  • runCallbackOnUserEvent(callback,options)
  • observeElementOnIntersect(el,options, callback)

📱 Viewport Utilities (Screen Size Detection)

  • getScreenSize(breakpoints?)

    • Returns the current screen size label based on breakpoints.

    • If no custom breakpoints are provided, the following default breakpoints are used:

      | Label | Min Width | Max Width | |--------|-----------|------------| | xs | 0px | 480px | | sm | 481px | 640px | | md | 641px | 768px | | lg | 769px | 1024px | | xl | 1025px | 1280px | | 2xl | 1281px | 1536px | | 3xl | 1537px | ∞ (Infinity) |

  • watchScreenSize(callback, breakpoints?)

    • Watches screen size changes and triggers the callback function.
    • Returns a function to stop watching.
