Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

n8n-nodes-contact-extractor

An n8n community node that extracts phone numbers, emails, and social media URLs from any web page. It is backed by the Universal Contact Extractor on Apify and bills per event, so there are no subscriptions and no minimums.

What it does

Give the node one or more page URLs and it returns one item per contact found: a phone number, an email address, or a social media profile URL, along with the page it was found on. Optionally follow links a set number of hops from the starting pages to widen the search. It also works as an AI Agent tool, so an agent can answer questions like "find a contact email on this website" on demand. Good for lead generation, sales outreach enrichment, and building contact lists from a set of company or organization sites.

Installation

Follow the n8n community nodes installation guide:

  1. In n8n, open Settings > Community Nodes.
  2. Select Install.
  3. Enter n8n-nodes-contact-extractor as the npm package name.
  4. Agree to the risks of using community nodes, then select Install.

After it installs, the Universal Contact Extractor node appears in the nodes panel.

n8n Cloud only allows verified community nodes. Until this node is verified, install it on a self-hosted n8n instance.

Credentials

You need a free Apify account and an API token.

  1. Sign in to the Apify Console.
  2. Open Settings > Integrations and copy your Personal API token.
  3. In n8n, create a new Apify API credential and paste the token.
  4. Use the credential's Test button to confirm it works.

The node also supports Apify OAuth2 if you prefer to connect that way.

Operations

Page > Extract Contacts returns contact details found on the given URLs.

| Parameter | Description | | --- | --- | | URLs | One or more page URLs to extract contacts from, one per line. | | Max Crawl Depth | 0 disables link traversal (only the given URLs are scraped). A higher value follows links that many hops deep. | | Phone Country | 2-letter country code used to autodetect phone number formats, for example US. | | Output | How much data to return: Simplified, Raw, or Selected Fields. |

Output

Each contact found is returned as its own n8n item. The Output parameter lets you choose how much to return:

  • Simplified (default): contact, contact_type, url. This mode is also used automatically when the node runs as an AI Agent tool, to keep responses small.
  • Raw: every field the Actor returns for each result, using the original field names below.
  • Selected Fields: pick exactly which fields to include.

Example workflows

1. Enrich a lead list with contact emails

  1. Google Sheets (read a list of company URLs).
  2. Universal Contact Extractor: URLs from the sheet, Max Crawl Depth 1.
  3. Filter: keep only rows where contact_type is email, then write back to the sheet.

2. Feed CRM URLs into the extractor and push results back

  1. CRM Trigger (new company added).
  2. Universal Contact Extractor: URLs {{$json.website}}.
  3. CRM Update: attach found emails and phone numbers to the company record.

3. Let an AI Agent find a contact email

  1. AI Agent node.
  2. Attach Universal Contact Extractor as a tool.
  3. Ask "Find a contact email on example.com." The agent calls the node (in Simplified mode) and returns matching contacts.

Pricing

This node calls the Universal Contact Extractor on Apify, which is billed pay-per-event: $0.01 per result row. No subscription, no minimums. Apify also includes a free monthly usage tier that covers typical volumes. See the Actor page for current rates.
