Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

n8n community node for YouTube transcripts — segments, plain text, SRT, VTT from videos, channels, playlists, and search, via the Fetchworks YouTube Transcript Scraper on Apify

Readme

n8n-nodes-fetchworks

An n8n community node for YouTube transcripts — timestamped segments, plain text, SRT, and VTT from videos, Shorts, channels, playlists, and search results.

The node is a thin client for the Fetchworks YouTube Transcript Scraper on Apify. The extraction runs on Apify's infrastructure; you bring your own Apify token. Pricing is $2 per 1,000 transcripts — only delivered transcripts are billed. Failed videos (no captions, blocked, unavailable) cost nothing.

Installation

In n8n: Settings → Community Nodes → Install → n8n-nodes-fetchworks.

Self-hosted via npm:

npm install n8n-nodes-fetchworks

See the n8n community nodes documentation for details.

Credentials

Create a "Fetchworks API" credential with your Apify API token. Sign up free at apify.com, then copy the token from Settings → API & Integrations.

Operations

One node — YouTube Transcripts (Fetchworks) — with four operations:

| Operation | Input | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | | Get Transcript(s) | One or more video URLs or 11-char IDs (comma/newline separated) | watch, youtu.be, Shorts, embed, and live URLs all work | | Get Channel Transcripts | Channel URL or @handle | Newest first, bounded by Max Videos (default 100) | | Get Playlist Transcripts | Playlist URL or ID | Whole playlist | | Search | A YouTube search query | Top results, bounded by Max Results (default 50) |

Options on every operation: Languages (priority list), Prefer Auto-Generated Captions, Translate To, Output Formats (segments / text / SRT / VTT), Include Video Metadata, Include Chapters.

Each video becomes one output item with an honest status field (ok, no_captions, blocked, live_stream, age_restricted, unavailable, translation_unavailable, po_token_required, error) — a video without captions is an explicit no_captions item, never a silently empty transcript. Small jobs run on Apify's synchronous endpoint and return in seconds; large jobs (whole channels, playlists) start an actor run and the node polls until it finishes.

Templates

Two importable workflows in templates/:

  • Summarize a YouTube video with AI — transcript → LLM summary.
  • New channel uploads → transcript → Notion — RSS-triggered channel watch, transcripts saved to a Notion database.
