Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Global Variables node for n8n

Global Variables n8n Node

Inspired by n8n-nodes-globals

https://github.com/umanamente/n8n-nodes-globals

At the time of creation of n8n-nodes-global-variables, n8n-nodes-globals didn't support JSON variables.
And even still I enjoy being able to organize my variables into multiple named variables.
Personal preference!

Install n8n-nodes-global-variables

Requires self-hosted n8n

How it works

1. Create a Global Variables credential

Note: you can have as many of these as you want to organize your variables.

2. Add some variables with names and values

The credential stores up to 10 named variables with values.

Note: I found that up to 50 work, but it slows down loading of the credential UI. Fork the code if you want up to 50.

If you want to organize your variables into more than 10 named variables, you can create multiple credentials.

3. Add a Global Variables node in your workflow

Choose the credential you created in step 1.

That's it!

Wherever the node is used, its variables will be available in the workflow after the node is executed in $json.

$json.vars.X

If you choose Put All Variables in One Key in the node options, all variables will be available under the $json.<the name you chose> key.

$json.X

If you disable Put All Variables in One Key in the node options, each variable will be available under its own key in $json.

Does not overwrite existing variables

If you have existing variables in your workflow, the Global Variables node will not overwrite them.

It will only add the variables that are defined in the credential.

Expressions

Expressions such as {{ $json.foo }} work as expected!

So long as $json.foo is available before the Global Variables node is executed.
