Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

n8n community node for the Siemens Link Checker Service (broken link checking)

Readme

n8n-nodes-link-checker

n8n community node for the Siemens Link Checker Service — a self-hosted, cached broken-link checker. This node lets your n8n workflows check whether URLs are broken and pull link-checker statistics, without exposing your backend to direct outbound requests.

This node wraps a self-hosted service. You need a running instance of link-checker-service (e.g. via its docker-compose up or the published ghcr.io/siemens/link-checker-service image) — this package does not include or bundle the service itself.

Installation

In n8n: Settings → Community Nodes → Install → enter n8n-nodes-link-checker.

Or via CLI, in your n8n installation:

npm install n8n-nodes-link-checker

Credentials

Credential type: Link Checker Service API

| Field | Description | |---|---| | Base URL | Address of your running link-checker-service instance (e.g. http://localhost:8080) | | Authentication | None or Bearer Token — matches whether the service instance has JWT validation enabled (see the service's auth docs) | | Token | JWT bearer token, only shown/sent when Authentication is Bearer Token |

The credential's "Test" button calls GET /version to confirm the base URL is reachable.

Resources & Operations

URL

| Operation | API call | Notes | |---|---|---| | Check | POST /checkUrls | Checks a single URL per node execution (one item in → one HTTP call). To check many URLs, feed multiple items into the node (e.g. via Split Out / a loop) and let n8n's normal per-item execution fan them out. |

Fields:

  • URL (required) — the URL to check
  • Context (optional) — opaque value echoed back by the service, useful for correlating results
  • Simplify (default on) — when on, returns just { url, context, status, http_status, error, timestamp }; when off, returns the full response including check_trace, body_patterns_found, elapsed_ms, and remote_addr

Stats

| Operation | API call | |---|---| | Get | GET /stats — aggregated counters (incoming requests, cache hits/misses, checks ok/broken/errored, etc.) | | Get Domains | GET /stats/domains — per-domain breakdown of the same |

Service

| Operation | API call | Notes | |---|---|---| | Get Version | GET /version | The endpoint returns plain text; this node wraps it as { version: "..." } | | Get Health | GET /readyz | Returns { status: "UP" } |

About the underlying service

Siemens Link Checker Service is a Go-based, self-hosted web service that runs optimized, cached broken-link checks and returns results for a batch of URLs at once (or streamed via /checkUrls/stream, not used by this node). It supports optional JWT-based authentication, per-domain blacklisting, rate limiting, and configurable URL-check plugins (with/without proxy, PAC script support). See its README for deployment and configuration details (Docker, config file, environment variables).
