Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

n8n-nodes-sec-investment-advisors-api

An n8n community node that searches SEC-registered investment advisor firms and their contacts. Filter by name, location, organization CRD, or update date. It is backed by the SEC Investment Advisors API on Apify and bills per result, so there are no subscriptions and no minimums.

Installation · Credentials · Operations · Output · Example workflows · Pricing · Resources

What it does

Choose a resource (Firm or Contact) and the node returns one item per record from the SEC registration data. Search firms by business name, city, state, or country; search contacts by firm name, organization CRD, contact ID, or last-updated date for incremental syncs. It also works as an AI Agent tool, so an agent can look up advisors and their contact details on demand. This is great for lead generation, compliance research, and CRM enrichment.

  • Search registered investment advisor firms or their representatives
  • Filter firms by name and main-office location
  • Filter contacts by firm, organization CRD, contact ID, or update date
  • Choose how much data to return per record: Simplified, Raw, or Selected Fields

Installation

Follow the n8n community nodes installation guide:

  1. In n8n, open Settings > Community Nodes.
  2. Select Install.
  3. Enter n8n-nodes-sec-investment-advisors-api as the npm package name.
  4. Agree to the risks of using community nodes, then select Install.

After it installs, the SEC Investment Advisors node appears in the nodes panel.

n8n Cloud only allows verified community nodes. Until this node is verified, install it on a self-hosted n8n instance.

Credentials

You need a free Apify account and an API token.

  1. Sign in to the Apify Console.
  2. Open Settings > Integrations and copy your Personal API token.
  3. In n8n, create a new Apify API credential and paste the token.
  4. Use the credential's Test button to confirm it works.

The node also supports Apify OAuth2 if you prefer to connect that way.

Operations

Firm > Search returns advisor firms. Contact > Search returns advisor representatives.

| Resource | Parameters | | --- | --- | | Firm | Firm Name, City, State, Country, Maximum Firms | | Contact | Firm Name, Organization CRDs, Contact IDs, Updated On or After, Maximum Contacts |

Both resources offer the Output parameter to control how much data to return.

Output

Each record is returned as its own n8n item. The Output parameter lets you choose how much to return:

  • Simplified (default): a compact object. This mode is also used automatically when the node runs as an AI Agent tool, to keep responses small.
    • Firm: name, organizationCrd, city, state, country, website.
    • Contact: firstName, lastName, email, phone, linkedinUrl, firmName, organizationCrd, contactId.
  • Raw: every field the API returns for each record, using the original field names below.
  • Selected Fields: pick exactly which fields to include.

Firm fields (Raw and Selected Fields)

| Field | Type | Description | | --- | --- | --- | | organization_crd | string | Firm CRD number | | primary_business_name | string | Firm business name | | main_office_city | string | Main office city | | main_office_state | string | Main office state | | main_office_country | string | Main office country | | main_office_postal_code | string | Main office postal code | | main_office_street_address_1 | string | Street address line 1 | | main_office_street_address_2 | string | Street address line 2 | | website_address | string | Firm website | | updated_at / created_at | string | Record timestamps |

Contact fields (Raw and Selected Fields)

| Field | Type | Description | | --- | --- | --- | | contact_id | integer | Contact identifier | | organization_crd | string | CRD of the contact's firm | | first_name / last_name | string | Contact name | | email | string | Email address | | email_verified | string | Email verification status | | phone | string | Phone number | | linkedin_url | string | LinkedIn profile URL | | firm_name | string | Contact's firm name | | updated_at / created_at | string | Record timestamps |

Example workflows

1. Build a lead list of advisors in a state

  1. SEC Investment Advisors (Firm): set State to NY, Maximum Firms to 100.
  2. Google Sheets: append name, city, and website for each firm.

2. Pull contacts for a specific firm

  1. SEC Investment Advisors (Contact): set Organization CRDs to the firm's CRD.
  2. Filter: keep contacts with a non-empty email.
  3. CRM: create a lead per contact.

3. Incremental sync of new contacts

  1. Schedule Trigger (daily).
  2. SEC Investment Advisors (Contact): set Updated On or After to yesterday's date.
  3. Postgres: upsert each contact by contact_id.

Pricing

This node calls the SEC Investment Advisors API on Apify, which is billed pay-per-result, with no subscription and no minimums. Apify also includes a free monthly usage tier that covers typical volumes. See the Actor page for current rates.
