Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Nexrall Code — AI coding assistant for your terminal (headless agent for scripts, CI and automation)

Readme

Nexrall Code CLI

Nexrall Code in your terminal — an autonomous coding agent for scripts, CI, and terminal-first workflows. The same agent engine as the Nexrall Code VS Code extension, powered by Nexrall.

npm install -g nexrall-code
nex

Requires Node.js 20+ and a Nexrall account. Signing in happens in the terminal — no editor, no VS Code login first: the first nex (or nex auth) asks how you want to sign in, with a browser hand-off that works for Google/Apple/SSO accounts as well as email + password or a token. It is the same account as the extension, so billing stays in one place and there are no API keys to configure.

Quick start

nex # interactive session (starts in auto mode)
nex "fix the failing tests" # one-shot prompt, then exit
nex -c # continue the latest conversation in this folder
nex -r # resume a session picked from a list

On start, nex asks you to trust the folder before it reads project config (.nexrall/mcp.json, nexrall.md, skills, permissions). It asks every session on purpose, so a freshly pulled config can never run unannounced. Non-interactive runs can pre-authorise with NEXRALL_TRUST_WORKSPACE=1.

Inside an interactive session:

  • type / for commands, @ for file references
  • Alt+M picks the model, Alt+T the thinking effort (or start with -m / -e)
  • Shift+Tab (or /mode) switches ask / edit / auto / plan
  • Esc stops the current turn; Ctrl+Up/Down (or /find) browses the conversation
  • long tool output folds to an 8-line preview; Ctrl+O (or /expand) shows the rest
  • /stats reports usage across sessions — activity by day, tokens and models, read from your local logs

Scripting and CI

nex --output-format json "summarise the failing tests" > result.json
  • --output-format text|json|stream-json — machine-readable one-shot output (implies auto-approve)
  • --no-banner, --no-color (or NO_COLOR) — clean output for pipes
  • --plan / --readonly — start in plan mode; read-only is a lock that cannot be switched off
  • --audit [path] — append every tool call (and refusal) to a local JSONL trail
  • -w, --worktree [name] — run the session in its own git worktree

Costs and tokens are collected locally too:

nex usage export --since 7d --format csv --out usage.csv

nex usage export reads the same local event logs as /stats and prints cost/token/tool usage across sessions as JSON (default), JSONL, or CSV. --since / --until accept 7d, 48h, or a date like 2026-10-01; --out writes to a file. To ship session events as OTLP telemetry instead, set NEXRALL_ENABLE_TELEMETRY=1 (off by default).

Commands

| Command | What it does | |---|---| | nex auth (alias nex login) | Log in — choose browser (Google, Apple, SSO or password), email + password, or a token | | nex auth --browser | The browser hand-off in one step; --code <code> finishes it without opening a browser | | nex auth --token <t> | Save a token directly, for CI/headless (prefer NEXRALL_TOKEN where you can) | | nex logout | Log out: revokes the refresh token server-side, then deletes the local config (/logout inside a session) | | nex doctor | Check Node, sign-in, network, terminal, MCP and storage, with a fix for each problem | | nex billing | Show, or change, which budget pays for your usage | | nex sessions | List or delete saved chat sessions | | nex tasks | The shared task board: seed, claim, complete or release tasks from the shell — sessions share the same list | | nex usage | Export local cost/token/tool usage: nex usage export (JSON, JSONL, CSV) | | nex plugin | Manage plugins: install from GitHub, list, update, remove | | nex update | Update nex to the latest version |

Official plugins live in Maxrall-Inc/plugins.

Selected flags

| Flag | What it does | |---|---| | -m, --model <name> | Explicit model, e.g. claude-opus-5-5 or glm-5.3 | | -e, --effort <level> | Thinking effort; the real levels depend on the model | | -d, --dir <path> | Working directory | | --mode <mode> | Starting permission mode: ask, edit, auto or plan | | -y, --yolo | Auto-approve all tool calls (no permission prompts) | | --debug | Write request timing, retries and errors to a debug log |

Run nex --help for the full list.
