Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ng2-img-pusher-gif

Easily implement native vertical responsive scaling by creating on-the-fly GIFs via base64.

Dynamic native vertical scaling is difficult. Poor solutions include JavaScript and CSS. By using the img tag it can be easily accomplished with images, the building blocks of the web that have been around since the dawn of the internet.

The img tag from day one has been the only element that respects aspect ratios. Taking advantage of this fact, you can use an img to reposition content in the vertical space, which makes responsive design a breeze.

This is the official Angular 2 version of the plain vanilla JS pusher lib written by my good friend Kirk Strobeck. He has written a condensed article about this strategy here. Kirk and I co-developed this strategy for an application we were working on and have long been excited to share it with others.

Demo

Give it a couple seconds to start up since it's on a heroku instance.

Try out the DEMO!

Install

npm install ng2-img-pusher-gif --save

Usage

You'll need to add ImgPusherGifService to your components providers (or application bootstrap) and also add ImgPusherGifDirective to your components directives.

@Component({
  selector: 'sample',
  directives: [ImgPusherGifDirective],
  providers: [ImgPusherGifService],
  template:`
  <div>
    <img pusher-gif [data-width]="width" [data-height]="height" />
  </div>
  `
})
class Sample {
  public width: number = 200;
  public height: number = 100;
}

or...

@Component({
  selector: 'sample',
  directives: [ImgPusherGifDirective],
  providers: [ImgPusherGifService],
  template:`
  <div>
    <img [pusher-gif]="dimensions" />
  </div>
  `
})
class Sample {
  public dimensions: string = '200x100';
}

Directive

ImgPusherGifDirective

<img [pusher-gif]="'200x100'" />

or...

<img pusher-gif [data-width]="'200'" [data-height]="'100'" />

Service

ImgPusherGifService

The service is used internally by the directive. However you can use it directly if needed.

API

  • createGif(width: number | string, height: number | string): generate a base64 encoded gif at the desired width/height. Note arguments can be passed as numbers or strings for convenience.
