Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

"When you gaze long into npm, npm also gazes into you."

A philosophical Node.js module that transcends the boundaries of functionality and embraces the void.

The Abyss of Installation

NPM

$ npm install nietzsche

The Will to Code

const nietzsche = require('nietzsche');

// Embrace the void
nietzsche.doNothing();

// Question your existence
try {
  nietzsche.existentialCrisis();
} catch (crisis) {
  console.log(crisis.message); // "Existential Crisis: Why do I exist?"
}

// Check divine status
console.log(nietzsche.godIsDead()); // true (except on Sundays)

// Assert dominance over your codebase
nietzsche.willToPower(); // All functions now return "Power!"

// Discover your true self
console.log(nietzsche.becomeWhoYouAre()); // "a JavaScript function pretending to be a philosopher"

// Experience eternal recursion
console.log(nietzsche.eternalReturn()); // "Even eternity has its limits..."

// Transform into the Übermensch
console.log(nietzsche.ubermensch('hello')); // "HELLO!!!"
console.log(nietzsche.ubermensch(42)); // 378000

API: Beyond Good and Evil

doNothing()

The original void. Does absolutely nothing, as promised.

existentialCrisis()

Throws an existential error with a random philosophical question. Use when your code needs more meaning.

godIsDead()

Returns true on most days, false on Sundays. Because even Nietzsche respects the Sabbath.

willToPower()

Overwrites all other functions to return "Power!". Use with caution - there's no going back.

becomeWhoYouAre()

Returns a randomly selected programming-themed identity crisis.

eternalReturn(depth)

Recursively calls itself until reaching the limits of eternity (42 iterations).

ubermensch(input)

Transforms any input into its superior form:

  • Strings → UPPERCASE!!!
  • Numbers → Multiplied by 9000
  • Arrays → Recursively transformed
  • Objects → Keys uppercased, values transformed
  • null/undefined → "TRANSCENDED"

Thus Spoke the Tests

$ npm test

Philosophy

This module is a testament to the absurdity of modern software development. In a world where packages exist for left-padding strings and checking if a number is odd, we present a module that boldly does nothing - and then questions why it exists.

Remember: "That which does not kill your Node process makes it stronger."

Dev - Test

$ npm test
