Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

nkamoto

v1.8.0

Published

NKAMOTO is a security-focused Bitcoin wallet CLI for generating BIP-39 wallets, managing Bitcoin keys, addresses, and QR codes from the terminal.

Readme

nkamoto

A terminal Bitcoin wallet CLI built around BIP-39 and BIP-84.

Security status: development release. Do not use this implementation to store real BTC until it has been independently reviewed and audited.

Requirements

  • Node.js 20.19+.
  • npm.

Commands

Running nkamoto without a command displays help.

nkamoto
nkamoto generate
nkamoto validate
nkamoto balance <bc1...>
nkamoto --help
nkamoto --version

nkamoto generate

Generates:

  • 256 bits of cryptographically secure entropy.
  • A 24-word BIP-39 English mnemonic.
  • A separately generated 12-word BIP-39 passphrase.
  • A Bitcoin mainnet BIP-84 native SegWit address.
  • Terminal QR codes for the mnemonic and passphrase.

Derivation path:

m/84'/0'/0'/0/0

nkamoto validate

Reads the mnemonic interactively rather than accepting it as a command-line argument, reducing the chance of shell-history leakage.

nkamoto validate

It validates the BIP-39 checksum, accepts the optional BIP-39 passphrase interactively, and derives the first BIP-84 address.

nkamoto balance

Checks a public Bitcoin address using the Blockstream Esplora API.

nkamoto balance bc1q...

Only the public address is sent to the balance service. The command does not accept or require a mnemonic or private key.

The provider is isolated behind BitcoinBalanceProvider so a self-hosted or alternative backend can be added later.

Development

npm install
npm run lint
npm test
npm run build
npm start

For direct development:

npm run dev

Security

The mnemonic and BIP-39 passphrase are recovery secrets.

Do not:

  • put them in shell arguments;
  • paste them into websites or chat;
  • commit them to source control;
  • redirect wallet-generation output to files;
  • use generated wallets with real funds before independent security review.

The public API intentionally does not return the derived BIP-39 seed.
