Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

node-red-contrib-delay-gate

v1.0.1

Published

Automatically closing gate node with opening delay.

Readme

Delay Gate

Is node-red node that can be used to pass messages only after certain delay period since the initial "trigger message" has passed.

After the initial delay the gate can either stay open until the closing timer expires or be closed immediately after the first message is forwarded.

Valid message

Unless specified, all input messages to the node are considered valid. Optionally you can make the node react to only messages with specific msg.payload value and type. Payload type and value can be specified in node properties. When payload value has been configured in node settings all other messages are considered invalid.

Behaviour

The node has three states:

  • closed state
  • delay state
  • open state

Initially the node is in closed state.

When the first valid message is received the node enters delay state and starts delay timer. During the delay state all valid messages are ignored. When invalid message is received during the delay state the delay is cancelled and the node returns to closed state.

When the delay period has passed the node enters open state and the next valid message will be passed to gate output.

In case the node is configured to close the gate immediately after passing the message the gate returns to closed state after passing the first message. Otherwise it stays open for valid messages until the gate open period has passed. In case invalid message is received during that time the gate returns to closed state immediately.

Practical example

Let's say you have a movement sensor in a room and you want to switch on an appliance, for example a ventilator, when the movement is detected. However you want to do that only after somebody moves in a room for a longer period of time so occasional short movement in a room would not switch on the appliance.
