Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node Server Creator (nsc.sh) (nodesc)

Description:

This is a node server generator built as a bash script. It will generate a fully modularized Node based back-end codebase with basic CRUD operations. Currently only supports MongoDB as the database.

Installation:

  • npm install -g nodesc

Usage:

  1. Run the script. (If you have something after the script, it will take it as the folder name)
  • Use folderdirectory/script.sh
  • (IE: nsc)
  • (IE: nsc foldername)
  • (IE: nsc foldername portnumber)
  • If you want, set an alias for the script.
  1. After answering the questions, you'll have a new project folder.
  • DB Name will be the name of the database
  • Model Name is the name of the model (IE: Users). Note: no validations are in so best is to use capital first letter
  • Attribute name is attributes of the model such as name, age, etc.
  • Attribute type is the type of the attribute such as String, Number, Array, etc.
  1. Inside that project folder, use npm install!
  2. Run the server (main file is server.js)

Notes:

  • Make sure mongod is running.
  • MongoDB is currently required in this version (unless you manually remove it in the created files of course).
  • nsc.sh && nsc_clean.sh should have the same functionality.
  • You might need to change the top line (#! /bin/bash) to your bash location if it doesn't work.
  • Use which bash to find out your path.
  • If you wish to use the script directly, you might have to use chmod to allow access and ability to run the script.
  • chmod +x nsc.sh works (just need to make the script executable)

Commands:

nsc <foldername> <port> nodesc <foldername> <port>

  • the foldername and port are optional since it will ask you if you dont have it.
