Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

odoo-typescript

Type declarations for Odoo.

With odoo-typescript you can use your favorite bundler to build your Odoo modules in TypeScript.

Advantages

  • Add dependencies with a single npm install
  • Out-of-the-box auto-completion for all Odoo modules
  • Full type inference for your own modules via define / definePatch

Disadvantages

  • An extra build step

Installation

npm install odoo-typescript

Import the sub-package matching your Odoo version:

import * as ots from 'odoo-typescript/20.0'

Supported versions: 16.0, 17.0, 18.0, 19.0, 20.0.

API

Besides the type declarations, odoo-typescript exposes three runtime helpers.

require

Import a module that is already loaded by Odoo.

import * as ots from 'odoo-typescript/20.0'

const owl = ots.require('@odoo/owl')

define

Define a module. Returns a Promise that resolves with the factory's exports.

import * as ots from 'odoo-typescript/20.0'
import type { ORM } from 'odoo-typescript/20.0/dist/addons/web/core/orm_plugin'

const foo = await ots.define({
    name: '@my_module/foo',
    deps: {
        hooks: '@web/core/utils/hooks',
        owl: '@odoo/owl',
    },
    factory({ hooks, owl }) {
        const orm: ORM = hooks.useService('orm')

        class MyComponent extends owl.Component {
            // custom owl component
        }

        return { MyComponent }
    },
})

definePatch

Patch an object or class from an existing module. Returns a Promise that resolves once the patch has been applied.

import * as ots from 'odoo-typescript/20.0'

await ots.definePatch({
    deps: { navbar: '@point_of_sale/app/components/navbar/navbar' },
    objToPatch({ navbar }) {
        return navbar.Navbar.prototype
    },
    patch() {
        return {
            setup() {
                super.setup()
                console.log('Patching Navbar ...')
            },
        }
    },
})

definePatch accepts an optional name. When omitted, a unique name is generated automatically.

Type inference for custom modules

To enable auto-completion for your own modules, extend the Modules interface:

import * as ots from 'odoo-typescript/20.0'

const foo = ots.define({
    name: '@mymodule/foo',
    deps: {},
    factory() {
        // ...
    },
})

declare module 'odoo-typescript/20.0' {
    export interface Modules {
        '@mymodule/foo': Awaited<typeof foo>
    }
}

You can also extract the instance type of an exported class with the Import helper:

import type { Import } from 'odoo-typescript/20.0'

type Navbar = Import<'@point_of_sale/app/components/navbar/navbar', 'Navbar'>
