Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ODS-API

This package provides an easy to use access to the ODS (Online Dienst für Studierende) platform used by the FH Dortmund.

Be awere that this package is an html parser for the provided page, all data is given by the webpage and there is no liability for their accuracy in any way.

Since this is a parser, there might be breaking changes which could completely break the data provided by this package. Please file an GitHub issue if you encounter any problems or wrong data.

This package will cache the polled html page. getMetaInformation, getGradesSummary and getGrades use this cache to parse the provided data. The cache has a client side timeout (default 100 minutes). You can clear this cache with clearCache() or you could use the useCache parameter in any of the three get methodes to ignore the cache timeout and request a new version of the html page, this will result in the same behavior as if you would call clearCache and then the methode. You can set the cacheTimeout attribute to change the cache timeout (number in milliseconds).

Please see ODSConnection for a detailed API documentation.

Examples

1. example - ES8 async await

const { ODSConnection } = require('ods-api');

(async () => {
    const conn = await ODSConnection.login('username', 'password');

    if (conn == null)
        throw new Error('either username and / or password was wrong or the the ods service was not reachable');

    const metaInformation = await conn.getMetaInformation();
    const gradesSummy = await conn.getGradesSummary();
    const grades = await conn.getGrades();

    require('fs').writeFileSync(metaInformation.matriculationNumber + '.json', JSON.stringify({ metaInformation, gradesSummy, grades }, undefined, 4));
})()
    .catch(console.error);

2. example - ES6 with Promise

const { ODSConnection } = require('ods-api');

ODSConnection.login('username', 'password')
    .then(conn => {
        if (conn == null)
            throw new Error('either username and / or password was wrong or the the ods service was not reachable');
        else
            return Promise.all([
                conn.getMetaInformation(),
                conn.getGradesSummary(),
                conn.getGrades()

            ]);
    })
    .then(([metaInformation, gradesSummy, grades]) => {
        require('fs').writeFileSync(metaInformation.matriculationNumber + '.json', JSON.stringify({ metaInformation, gradesSummy, grades }, undefined, 4))
    })
    .catch(console.error);
