Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

OpenCode TUI plugin that replaces the home screen tips with a random quote

Readme

opencode-quotes-tui

CI npm version

Open your terminal to a piece of timeless wisdom. opencode-quotes-tui replaces OpenCode's built-in tips with a hand-picked quote. You get a new one every time you start OpenCode.

OpenCode TUI home screen with a random quote in the footer

Why you'll like it

  • A fresh quote every session: philosophy, literature, science, art. A hand-curated list instead of a wall of tips.
  • Matches your theme: renders in your current OpenCode theme's colors, with nothing to configure.
  • One command to install: works out of the box, globally, in every project.

Install

opencode plugin opencode-quotes-tui -g

Restart OpenCode. That's it. Every session from now on opens with a quote.

In-app Plugin Manager: command palette → Plugins → install → type opencode-quotes-tui → press Tab to select global scope.

Manual config: add the package to the plugin list in ~/.config/opencode/tui.json and OpenCode downloads it automatically:

{
  "$schema": "https://opencode.ai/tui.json",
  "plugin": ["opencode-quotes-tui"]
}

Use "[email protected]" to pin a version.

Single project only: copy src/tui.tsx, src/quotes.ts and tui.json from this repo into your project root and OpenCode picks them up automatically.

Uninstall

Remove opencode-quotes-tui from the plugin list in ~/.config/opencode/tui.json and restart OpenCode.

One honest note: while active, the plugin hides OpenCode's built-in tips, which is the point. That preference outlives the plugin, so if you want the tips back afterwards, run the built-in tips.toggle command once.

Make it yours

The quote list is a plain file: src/quotes.ts, an array of { quote, author }. Fork it, edit it, rebuild with npm run build. An empty list is fine too. The plugin simply steps aside.

Contributing a quote

Pull requests with new quotes are welcome:

  • Verifiable attribution: cite the source or work in the PR; misattributed quotes are declined.
  • Terminal-friendly: around 200 characters max.
  • Any language: English and Portuguese today, more welcome.
  • Fit the shelf: keep the section organization of src/quotes.ts.

Compatibility

OpenCode 1.18 or newer.

npm install
npm run typecheck
npm run build

Plain Node 22 + npm, no extra runtime needed.
