Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

OpenCode RTK Plugin

npm version License: MIT

OpenCode plugin that automatically rewrites commands to use RTK (Rust Token Killer) for token-efficient output. Reduces LLM token consumption by 60-90% on common development commands. RTK (Rust Token Killer) is a high-performance CLI proxy that filters and compresses command outputs before they reach your LLM context.

Requirements

  • Node.js >= 20.20.0
  • RTK >= 0.27.0 - Must be installed and available in PATH
  • OpenCode - This plugin integrates with OpenCode

Installation

1. Install RTK (if not already installed)

Refer to the RTK documentation for installation guide.

# Verify installation
rtk --version # Should show "rtk x.x.x"
rtk gain --history # Should show token savings stats

2. Install this plugin

Add this plugin into opencode.json:

{
  "plugin": ["opencode-rtk"]
}

3. Verify RTK is accessible

which rtk # Should return path to rtk binary
rtk rewrite "echo hi" # Should return optimized command

How It Works

This plugin hooks into OpenCode's tool.execute.before event and transparently rewrites bash/shell commands to use RTK equivalents:

User types:  git status
             │
       ┌─────▼──────────────────┐
       │  OpenCode + RTK Plugin │
       │  "git status"          │
       │    → "rtk git status"  │
       └─────┬──────────────────┘
             │
       ┌─────▼──────────────────┐
       │  Shell executes        │
       │  rtk git status        │
       └─────┬──────────────────┘
             │
  Claude receives: "3 modified, 1 untracked ✓"
  (instead of 50 lines of raw git output)

Supported Commands

The plugin rewrites commands like:

  • git status/diff/log/add/commit/push/pull/branchrtk git ...
  • cat <file>rtk read <file>
  • rg/grep <pattern>rtk grep <pattern>
  • lsrtk ls
  • cargo test/build/clippyrtk cargo ...
  • npm/pnpm testrtk test ...
  • And many more...

Configuration

No configuration required. The plugin automatically:

  1. Checks if RTK is available in PATH
  2. Uses rtk rewrite <command> to get the optimized version
  3. Falls back to original command if RTK is unavailable

Verifying Installation

# Test that rtk rewrite works
rtk rewrite "git status"
# Output: rtk git status

# Check token savings
rtk gain

Troubleshooting

Plugin not rewriting commands?

  1. Verify RTK version >= 0.27.0: rtk --version
  2. Test rewrite manually: rtk rewrite "git status"
  3. Check OpenCode is loading the plugin
