OrbitDesk
A live 3D visualization of Claude Code agents working, as pixel-style characters in an office.
⚠️ Pre-release (v0.0.1). The name is reserved and the design is locked, but the tool does not work yet.
npx orbitdeskcurrently prints a placeholder. Watch the repo if you want the v1 release.
What it is
When you run Claude Code with subagents or Agent Teams, you watch a terminal scroll text. OrbitDesk turns that same session into a navigable 3D office: each agent is a character at a desk, walking to collaborate, typing while it works, and reporting status — driven entirely by real events from your live session.
Not a simulation. A real-time mirror of what your agents are actually doing.
- Free-orbit 3D camera — watch from any angle
- One desk per active agent, auto-arranged into pods
- Agents walk in when spawned, get briefed, work, hand off, and leave when done
- Click a desk for a pixel-CRT popup showing that agent's current task
- Multiple projects share one office, each in its own wing
Everything runs locally. No data leaves your machine.
How it works
Claude Code's hooks fire on real session events. OrbitDesk receives them over HTTP on loopback, normalizes them into a generic event schema, and pushes them to a browser app built on Three.js / React Three Fiber.
Hooks never block your session. All events except SessionStart use HTTP hooks — if the visualizer isn't running, the connection is refused instantly and Claude Code carries on. SessionStart uses an async command hook, for which Claude Code ignores output and exit codes entirely. This is a design constraint, not an aspiration: a visualizer that can stall your real work is worse than no visualizer.
Status
| | | |---|---| | Spec | Complete — 31 hook events inventoried against Claude Code 2.1.231 | | Assets | Chosen and verified (Kenney Mini Characters + Furniture Kit, both CC0) | | Implementation | Not started |
Platform support
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| Linux | Developed and tested here |
| macOS | Expected to work; not yet verified |
| Windows | Untested. The background-server launch uses a platform-specific mechanism that hasn't been run on Windows yet. If it misbehaves, npx orbitdesk start in a second terminal is the fallback. Bug reports welcome. |
