Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Industrial-grade process manager written in Rust. Designed to replace PM2. Built by Atlas Research Labs. Built for the World.

Installation

Global Installation

npm install -g orionpm

Installs both orion and the 3-letter shortcut opm globally. Zero external download dependencies. Precompiled native binaries are bundled directly with the npm package for instant installation.

Direct Execution with npx

npx orionpm start app.js
# or:
npx opm start app.js

Local Project Dependency

npm install --save-dev orionpm

Add to package.json:

{
  "scripts": {
    "start": "orion start ecosystem.config.js",
    "stop": "orion stop all",
    "status": "orion list"
  }
}

Quick Start

# Start a process
orion start app.js --name my-app

# Start with HTTP health probe auto-recovery
orion start app.js --name my-app --health-http http://127.0.0.1:3000/healthz

# Start with multi-instance cluster
orion start app.js --name api -i 4

# Scale workers up or down dynamically
orion scale api +2
orion scale api 2

# Forward arbitrary signals
orion sendSignal SIGHUP api

# Zero-downtime daemon upgrade
orion update

# Start with live file watching and auto-restart on changes
orion start app.js --name my-app --watch

# Start directly from PM2 ecosystem file (drop-in replacement)
orion start ecosystem.config.js
orion start ecosystem.json

# Start all services from a Procfile
orion start Procfile

# Import PM2 configuration to native orion.toml
orion import ecosystem.config.js -o orion.toml

# Check status
orion list

# View logs
orion logs my-app --follow

# Open terminal monitor
orion monit

# Stop process
orion stop my-app

# Kill daemon
orion daemon kill

Why Orion over PM2?

  • Single Rust Native Binary: No runtime dependencies, no V8 startup penalty, sub-second boot time.
  • Zero Memory Bloat: 15 MB RSS vs PM2's 80-150 MB baseline.
  • HTTP & TCP Health Probes: Native application deadlock and freeze detection with automated graceful restart.
  • Dynamic Cluster Scaling: Instant scaling via orion scale <app> <N>.
  • Arbitrary Signal Dispatching: Direct POSIX signal forwarding (orion sendSignal <signal> <target>).
  • Drop-in PM2 & Procfile Compatibility: Directly parses ecosystem.config.js, ecosystem.json, and standard Procfile formats.
  • 100% Free and Open Source: Zero paywalls, zero cloud upsells, zero telemetry.
  • OLED Black UI: Clean #000000 monochrome terminal monitor.
