pi-agents-local-md

A tiny Pi extension that automatically loads a project-local AGENTS.local.md file into the system prompt.

Why

Pi already loads the committed AGENTS.md as shared project instructions. This extension adds support for a personal, uncommitted companion file:

• AGENTS.md — shared rules, committed to the repo.
• AGENTS.local.md — your private / machine-specific notes (e.g. "use pnpm", "my local DB runs on port 5433"), kept out of git.

Behavior

1. On session start (startup / /reload / /new / /resume), the extension reads <project root>/AGENTS.local.md if it exists and shows a notification.
2. Before every agent run, the file is re-read (edits take effect immediately, no reload needed) and its content is appended to the system prompt under a ## Project-Local Instructions (AGENTS.local.md) heading.
3. If the file does not exist or is empty, the extension stays silent and does nothing.

Install

Directly from GitHub:

pi install git:github.com/raosay/pi-agents-local-md

Or copy index.ts into ~/.pi/agent/extensions/ (global) or .pi/extensions/ (project-local).

Usage

echo "Use pnpm, never npm. Don't commit dist/." > AGENTS.local.md
echo "AGENTS.local.md" >> .gitignore

Then restart Pi or run /reload.
