Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Pi Cider Extension

Control Apple Music through Cider client from Pi. Shows now playing in status bar.

Status Bar

The extension automatically displays the currently playing song in Pi's status bar footer. Updates every turn end.

Configuration

Set your Cider API token in one of these ways:

Option 1: Environment file (recommended for local development)

# Create .env file in the extension directory
CIDER_API_TOKEN=your-token-here

Option 2: Pi auth.json (simple)

{
  "cider": {
    "type": "api_key",
    "key": "your-cider-api-token"
  }
}

Option 3: Pi auth.json (with env prefix)

{
  "env:CIDER_API_TOKEN": "your-cider-api-token"
}

The env: prefix injects the value as an environment variable, which some setups prefer.

Environment variables (optional):

  • CIDER_HOST - Cider server host (default: localhost)
  • CIDER_PORT - Cider server port (default: 10767)

Tools

| Tool | Description | | ---------------------- | ---------------------------- | | cider_status | Check if Cider is running | | cider_now_playing | Get current track info | | cider_play | Resume/start playback | | cider_pause | Pause playback | | cider_play_pause | Toggle play/pause | | cider_next | Skip to next track | | cider_previous | Go to previous track | | cider_is_playing | Check if music is playing | | cider_volume | Get/set volume (0-1) | | cider_seek | Seek to position (seconds) | | cider_queue | View playback queue | | cider_play_url | Play song by Apple Music URL | | cider_toggle_shuffle | Toggle shuffle mode | | cider_toggle_repeat | Toggle repeat mode | | cider_search | Search Apple Music catalog |

Setup Cider RPC

  1. Open Cider → Settings → Connectivity
  2. Click "Manage External Application Access to Cider"
  3. Generate API token
  4. Copy the token for use above

Note: The API uses the apptoken header (not apitoken).

Install

pi install pi-cider
