Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

pi-you-should-know

v0.2.1

Published

An on-demand private session briefing and follow-up chat for Pi

Readme

You should know

npm version

Get a briefing of important session output and ask follow-up questions with /ysk.

Briefing and follow-up modal

Install

Requires Pi and Node.js 22.19 or later.

pi install npm:pi-you-should-know

Or install from GitHub (requires Git):

pi install git:github.com/dpaluy/pi-you-should-know

Choose one source. Restart Pi or run /reload after installation.

Set up

You do not need to create you-should-know.json manually. First-run setup creates it automatically when you confirm your model choices.

  1. Run /ysk in Pi.
  2. Select a ranking model, such as typesafe/jev-latest.
  3. Select a model for briefings and follow-up answers.
  4. Select Save and generate briefing.

Type to filter models. Use the arrow keys to select and Enter to confirm.

If credentials are missing, use the /login command shown in the modal. For example:

/login typesafe
/login openai-codex

The file is saved at ~/.pi/agent/you-should-know.json. For example, selecting Jev and Codex Luna creates:

{
  "rankModel": "typesafe/jev-latest",
  "chatModel": "openai-codex/gpt-6-luna"
}

rankModel selects the ranking model. chatModel selects the model for briefings and follow-up answers. Provider credentials are configured through /login, not this file.

Existing settings are kept. To change models later, edit the model IDs in the saved file. If you set PI_CODING_AGENT_DIR, the file is saved in that directory instead.

Use

  • Run /ysk in a conversation to get a briefing.
  • Enter a follow-up question and press Enter.
  • Use Page Up, Page Down, or the mouse wheel to scroll.
  • Press Escape to close.

To use an earlier conversation, resume it with pi --continue or pi --resume, then run /ysk.

Check for updates

Check the published npm version:

npm view pi-you-should-know version

Update your installed extensions, then run /reload in Pi:

pi update --extensions

See CHANGELOG.md for changes.

Privacy

Briefings and follow-up answers are not added to the main session transcript. Recent session text is sent to your selected model providers and can contain secrets. Provider charges or subscription limits can apply.
