Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

pinterest-url-normalizer

v0.1.2

Published

Parse, classify, and normalize Pinterest URLs without network requests.

Readme

pinterest-url-normalizer

Parse, classify, and normalize Pinterest URLs without making network requests.

Source code

The package recognizes Pin, pin.it, profile, board, and Ideas URLs across Pinterest country domains. It uses an exact host allow list, rejects HTTP URLs and lookalike domains, and removes tracking parameters from normalized output.

Install

npm install pinterest-url-normalizer

JSR users can install the same TypeScript source package with:

npx jsr add @savepinner/pinterest-url-normalizer

Usage

import {
  isPinterestUrl,
  normalizePinterestUrl,
  parsePinterestUrl,
} from "pinterest-url-normalizer";

const parsed = parsePinterestUrl(
  "https://de.pinterest.com/pin/987654321/?utm_source=share",
);

console.log(parsed.kind); // "pin"
console.log(parsed.pinId); // "987654321"
console.log(parsed.normalizedUrl);
// https://www.pinterest.com/pin/987654321/

isPinterestUrl("https://pin.it/AbC123"); // true
normalizePinterestUrl("https://pinterest.co.uk/savepinner/media-tools/");
// https://www.pinterest.com/savepinner/media-tools/

Supported URL kinds

| Kind | Example | | --- | --- | | pin | https://www.pinterest.com/pin/123456789/ | | short | https://pin.it/AbC123 | | profile | https://www.pinterest.com/savepinner/ | | board | https://www.pinterest.com/savepinner/media-tools/ | | ideas | https://www.pinterest.com/ideas/space-wallpaper/926295399832/ |

pin.it links are classified and normalized but are not followed. Resolving them requires a network request and belongs in the consuming application.

API

parsePinterestUrl(input)

Returns a discriminated object with kind, originalUrl, normalizedUrl, and type-specific fields. Throws PinterestUrlError with code INVALID_URL or UNSUPPORTED_URL when parsing fails.

normalizePinterestUrl(input)

Returns the canonical URL. Full Pinterest URLs use www.pinterest.com; short links retain pin.it because resolving them requires network access.

isPinterestUrl(input)

Returns true when the value is one of the supported URL forms.

isPinterestHost(host)

Checks a hostname against the package's exact Pinterest country-domain allow list.

Why this package exists

This parser is maintained by the team behind the Pinterest image downloader, a browser tool for inspecting media exposed by public Pinterest Pin URLs. The package contains no downloader, tracking, browser automation, or remote code.
