Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

preact-jss-tiny

v1.0.0-alpha.9

Published

A small version of JSS for preact, loosely based on react-jss

Readme

preact-jss-tiny

This is a small library which provides support for using JSS in preact. Via the "createUseStyles" function which behaves exactly like the version from 'react-jss'. This has the same refcount/dependecy management of the style sheet, so each instance of the component shares the same copy of the style sheet. In addition it supports dynamic (props) based style properries and also themeing (optional). This is written in typescript and provides full typing as part of the package.

createUseStyles

tbd

JssProvider

Provides properties which affect the behavior of JSS to the children.

const Root: FunctionalComponent = () => {
	return (
		<JssProvider classNamePrefix="myapp-">
			<Applicaton />
		</JssPrvider>
	);
}

Supported Properties

All of the following properties are optional on the provider, if you just want default behavior the provider c can actually be omitted entierly.

  • jss: Provide you own implementation of JSS, by default this created from "jss-preset-default"
  • disableStyleGeneration: disable all style generation on the tree.
  • id: tbd
  • generateId: tbd
  • classNamePrefix: Specify a prefix to be applied to the generated styles.

JssThemeProvider

A theme provider is used to provide a theme which can be used for style generation.

const myTheme = {
	background: "cornsilk",
	color: "magenta"
};

const Root: FunctionalComponent = () => {
	return (
		<JssThemeProvider theme={myTheme}>
			<Application /
		</JssThemeProvider>
	);
}

Supported Properties

  • theme: Specify the theme to apply to the tree below, changing the them will result in a redraw and regeneration of the content below. The contents and format of the theme object is left to the consumer of library.

Complete Example

import { createUseStyles, JssProvider, JssThemeProvider} from "preact-jss-tiny";
import { render, FunctionalComponent } from "preact";

const myTheme = {
	background: "cornsilk",
	color: "magenta",
};

const useStyles = createUseStyles((theme: typeof myTheme) => ({
	"@global body": {
		backgroundColor: theme.background
	},

	root: {
		color: theme.color
	},

	header: {
		color: "rgba(0,0,0,0.80)"
	}
}));

const Application: FunctionalComponent = () => {
	const styles = useStyles();

	return (
		<div className={styles.root}>
			<h1 className={styles.header}>Header</h1>
			This is magenta text
		</div>
	);
}

const Root: FunctionalComponent = () => {
	return (
		<JssProvider classNamePrefix="myapp-">
			<JssThemeProvider theme={myTheme}>
				<Application />
			</JssThemeProvider>
		</JssProvider>
	);
}

render(<Root/>, document.body);
