Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Configuration based presentation engine.

Presentr

👩🏼‍💻 Configuration based presentation engine. 👨🏽‍💻

Installation

Yarn
yarn add presentr
NPM
npm install --save presentr

Usage

You need to have a server running with an html file to mount the slides in. Then you have to pass the ID of the element and an object describing your slides.

Note that slides object keys have to be numbered right now: slide1, slide2, slide3, ...

Example

import { presentr } from 'presentr';

const slidesConfig = {
  slide1: {
    type: 'simple',
    header: 'Hello World!',
    notes: 'Notes for speakers view.'
  },
  slide2: {
    type: 'list',
    header: 'This is a list',
    subHeader: 'Sup there!',
    list: ['List Item 1', 'List Item 2', 'List Item 3'],
    background: require('./assets/background.jpg'),
  },
  slide3: {
    type: 'quote',
    quote: 'It compiles... Ship it!',
    author: 'Someone',
  },
};

presentr('app', slidesConfig);

Boilerplate

If you want a working solution out of the box, just:

  1. Download this boilerplate.
  2. yarn or npm install.
  3. Add your slides configuration to slides.js.
  4. yarn run start or npm start

quote:

Renders a slide with a quote and its author.

Speaker Mode

All slides accepts a property called notes, which receive a string. When you run your server, you can go to /speaker in another browser tab or window to see a private screen with the current slides progress and the notes you specified for each slide.

Note

As of now, the engine is very strict with how you use it. I did it to be able to bootstrap simple web-based presentations without any code, just a configuration file. I'll be improving it on the go as I use it and start needing new features, but improvements are always welcome in the form of PRs.

Roadmap

  • [ ] Add documentation for missing slide types.
  • [ ] Fix the header to make it fit.
  • [ ] Provide more configuration options.
  • [ ] Add MD support.
