Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

presik-widget

Client SDK for building presik quiz widgets — interactive question front-ends (a richer form, a branching adventure, a small game) that run in a sandboxed iframe on the student's phone and report one answer to the quiz over postMessage. See the widget contract in the main repo's CONVENTIONS.md.

You don't need this package for a tiny inline widget — presik serves the same file at /widget-sdk.js, so a srcdoc/bundle widget can just <script src="/widget-sdk.js"></script>. Install it when your game is its own project with a build and tests.

Install

npm install presik-widget

Also published to GitHub Packages as @igorrkurr/presik-widget (same code, scoped because that registry requires the repo owner's scope). To use that copy instead, point the scope at it in .npmrc:

@igorrkurr:registry=https://npm.pkg.github.com

Use (the game side)

import PresikWidget from 'presik-widget';

const quiz = await PresikWidget.connect(); // does the ready/init handshake
quiz.config;        // author config from questions.json (e.g. { seed: 42 })
quiz.options;       // [{ id, text? }, …] — the outcomes (for the 'choice' kind)
quiz.answerKind;    // 'choice' | 'scale' | 'text'

quiz.answer('east');                          // report the student's answer
quiz.on('reveal', (q) => paintWinner(q.correct));  // teacher revealed the result

The reported value goes through the same server-side gate as a tapped button, so it must be a legal answer for the declared kind.

Test your integration (the host side)

mockHost is a fake quiz host, so your game's own CI can assert what it reports with a plain iframe and no presik server:

import PresikWidget from 'presik-widget';

const host = PresikWidget.mockHost(iframe, { answer: 'choice', options: [{ id: 'east' }] });
// … drive the game so the player exits east …
assert.deepEqual(host.answers, ['east']);
host.state({ revealed: true, correct: ['east'] }); // push a reveal to the widget

Ship the game to a quiz

Build to a self-contained dist/ with relative asset paths (Vite base: './'), add a widget.json manifest, and vendor it:

presik widget add ./dist    # → questions.json references it as { "package": "<name>" }

Zero dependencies. UMD: import, require, or a global PresikWidget via <script>.
