Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Install the /prompt2md agent skill: convert messy prompts and documents into token-optimized, layout-aware Markdown with an honest token report.

Readme

prompt2md-skill

The /prompt2md agent skill: teaches your coding agent to turn messy prompts and documents into token-optimized Markdown, and to report honestly what that saved.

Install

npx prompt2md-skill

Start a new agent session, then run /prompt2md. The skill also triggers on its own when you ask to clean up a prompt, convert a document to Markdown, cut token usage, or fit something into a context window.

Installs to ~/.claude/skills/prompt2md, and to the shared ~/.agents/skills when that exists. Re-running is safe: an identical install is a no-op, and a copy you have edited is backed up beside itself rather than overwritten.

For any other agent, point --dir at its own skills directory. Note that skill locations are not yet standardised across tools even though SKILL.md itself is converging — Codex, for instance, loads skills from inside plugins rather than from a flat directory. The universal path is the MCP server, which any MCP client can use; see the root README.

| Flag | Effect | |---|---| | --dry-run | Print what would change, modify nothing | | --project | Install into ./.claude/skills for this repo only | | --dir <path> | Install into an explicit skills directory | | --force | Replace an existing skill without backing it up |

What it does

The skill works on its own for prompt cleanup. Point it at rambling input and it returns a structured spec with duplicates collapsed and every requirement preserved, using your own words rather than a paraphrase.

Connect the engine (MCP server or CLI) and it also handles document conversion (PDF, Office, HTML, CSV, scans), compression to a token budget, and byte-exact retrieval of anything a summary replaced. The core promise is that compression is reversible: every compressed section carries a p2md:src anchor, and the skill is instructed to retrieve the verbatim original rather than answer from a summary.

Validate

pnpm --filter prompt2md-skill lint

Checks the SKILL.md frontmatter conventions and the packaging contract that npx prompt2md-skill depends on.
