Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ProxyMate

Version 0.4.0 Build Status

Introduction

This library provides a wrapper for ES6 Proxies that can be used to emulate protected class properties as well as provide data encapsulation.

Examples

class SimpleClass {
    constructor() {
        this.data = {
            'propA': 'this is prop a',
            'propB': 'this is prop b'
        };
    }
}

// Simple data encapsulation
let obj1 = proxy(new SimpleClass(), [], ['data']);
console.log(obj1.propA); // 'this is prop a'
console.log(obj1.data.propA); // 'this is prop a'
obj1.propA = 'prop a has changed';
console.log(obj1.propA); // 'prop a has changed'
console.log(obj1.data.propA); // 'prop a has changed'

// Data encapsulation with read-only members
let obj2 = proxy(new SimpleClass(), ['data'], ['data']);
console.log(obj2.propA); // 'this is prop a'
console.log(obj2.data.propA); // 'this is prop a'
obj2.propA = 'prop a is read-only'; // throws exception
console.log(obj2.propA); // 'this is prop a'
console.log(obj2.data.propA); // 'this is prop a'

// Complex example with a nested proxy
let obj3 = proxy(new SimpleClass(), ['data'], ['data']);
let obj4 = proxy(new SimpleClass(), [], ['data']);
obj3.nested = obj4;

console.log(obj3.propA); // 'this is prop a'
console.log(obj3.data.propA); // 'this is prop a'
console.log(obj3.nested.propA); // 'this is prop a'
console.log(obj3.nested.data.propA); // 'this is prop a'

obj3.propA = 'prop a is read-only'; // throws exception
obj3.nested.propA = 'prop a of the inner proxy can be modified';
console.log(obj3.nested.propA); // 'prop a of the inner proxy can be modified'
console.log(obj3.nested.data.propA); // 'prop a of the inner proxy can be modified'

Classes can also be proxied automatically in the constructor.

// Typically, value objects should not be modifiable once created
class ValueObject {
    constructor(sourceData = {}) {
        this.data = sourceData;
        return proxy(this, ['data'], ['data']);
    }
}

You don't have to use ES6 classes, either. Plain objects are ok too!

const getObj = () => ({
    propA: 'this is prop a',
    propB: 'this is prop b',
    nested: {
        propC: 'this is nested.propC',
    },
});

// Make a pure value object by marking everything read-only
let obj4 = proxy(getObj(), '*');
obj4.propA = 'prop a is read-only'; // throws exception
obj4.propB = 'prop b is read-only'; // throws exception
obj4.nested.propC = 'even nested props are read-only'; // throws exception
