Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Quick Explorer File Size makes it easy to browse your workspace while knowing exactly how big each file is, without leaving VS Code.


⚡ Key Features

  • Show file sizes in KB right in the Explorer.
  • Folders first, files second, sorted alphabetically.
  • Click files to open them directly.
  • Auto-refresh every 10 seconds.
  • Works with any file type and folder structure.
  • Uses VS Code’s built-in file & folder icons.

📦 Requirements

  • VS Code 1.80.0 or newer.
  • A workspace folder must be open to see file sizes.

🛠️ Usage

  1. Open a folder in VS Code.
  2. Click on the Quick Explorer File Size view in the sidebar.
  3. Browse your files and folders with sizes displayed instantly.

⚠️ Known Issues

  • Very large directories may take a few seconds to load.
  • Hidden or system files may not always appear depending on OS permissions.
