Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Autonomous task runner for AI coding agents

Readme

ralphai

Put your AI coding agent on autopilot.

Ralphai takes plans (markdown files) from its backlog and drives any CLI-based coding agent to implement them, with branch isolation, feedback loops, and stuck detection built in. You write the plans (or have your agent write them). Ralphai does the rest.

Why Ralphai?

AI coding agents get worse the longer they run. As the conversation grows, the model drops older context — it forgets what it tried, repeats mistakes, and drifts.

Ralphai avoids this by starting each turn with a fresh session: just the plan and a progress log. No conversation history to lose, no drift.

  • No context rot — turn 10 is as sharp as turn 1
  • Fresh feedback — real build output every cycle, never recalled from memory
  • Stuck detection — stops burning tokens when progress stalls

How it works →

Install

npm install -g ralphai # global (recommended)
npm install -D ralphai # local dev dependency
npx ralphai # no install, runs latest

Requires Node.js 18+ and a supported CLI agent.

Get Started

In your project repository:

ralphai init # scaffold .ralphai/ and ralphai.json

Ralphai detects your package manager and build scripts automatically. Use --yes to skip prompts.

All ralphai files are gitignored by default — your workflow config is personal. Commit the .gitignore update so git knows to ignore them:

git add .gitignore
git commit -m "chore: add ralphai to .gitignore"

To share config with your team, use --shared to track ralphai.json in git:

ralphai init --shared # keeps ralphai.json out of .gitignore
git add .gitignore ralphai.json
git commit -m "chore: track shared ralphai config"

Try It Now

ralphai init --yes # scaffold .ralphai/ with a sample plan
git checkout -b try-ralphai # switch to a feature branch
ralphai run # watch the agent complete the sample plan

init --yes creates a sample plan in the backlog so you can see the full loop immediately — no plan writing required.

Workflow

1. Write plans

init --yes creates a sample plan automatically. For real work, ask your coding agent to create plan files in .ralphai/pipeline/backlog/. Point it at .ralphai/PLANNING.md for structure and examples.

Create a plan in the .ralphai backlog for adding dark mode support.
Use .ralphai/PLANNING.md as a guide.

Tip: .ralphai/ is gitignored, so agents in normal chat sessions might be slow to discover it. Add a section like this to your project's AGENTS.md so agents know about ralphai outside of runs:

## Ralphai

This project uses [Ralphai](https://github.com/mfaux/ralphai) for autonomous task execution.
Plan files go in `.ralphai/pipeline/backlog/`. See `.ralphai/PLANNING.md` for
the plan writing guide.

2. Run

Ralphai commits on your current branch by default. It refuses to run on main/master — switch to a feature branch first.

git checkout -b my-feature
ralphai run

Each turn: the agent reads the plan, implements the next task, runs build/test/lint, fixes errors, and commits. Then a fresh session starts for the next turn.

ralphai run --turns=3 # 3 turns per plan (default: 5)
ralphai run --turns=0 # unlimited turns
ralphai run --pr # create a ralphai/* branch and open a PR
ralphai run --dry-run # preview without changing anything

For parallel work, run in a git worktree:

ralphai worktree # auto-pick next backlog plan
ralphai worktree list # show active worktrees
ralphai worktree clean # remove completed worktrees

3. Steer

Plans flow through the pipeline:

wip/ (parked) backlog/ → in-progress/ → out/

Park unready plans in wip/. Ralphai ignores that folder.

4. Pause and resume

Stop mid-run any time. Work stays in in-progress/. Resume with ralphai run — it auto-detects in-progress work. Use ralphai status to see what's queued, in progress, and any problems.

5. Close the learnings loop

Ralphai logs mistakes to .ralphai/LEARNINGS.md (gitignored) during runs. After a run, review entries and promote durable lessons to AGENTS.md or skill docs. More →

Supported Agents

Ralphai works with any CLI agent that accepts a prompt argument. Claude Code and OpenCode are actively tested.

| Agent | Command | Status | | ----------- | -------------------------------- | -------- | | Claude Code | claude -p | Tested | | OpenCode | opencode run --agent build | Tested | | Codex | codex exec | Untested | | Gemini CLI | gemini -p | Untested | | Aider | aider --message | Untested | | Goose | goose run -t | Untested | | Kiro | kiro-cli chat --no-interactive | Untested | | Amp | amp -x | Untested |
