Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Traktor Scratch - When I asked Rane about their thinking behind discontinued the Traktor Scratch unit, they told me that they felt Traktor Scratch was losing its way. The Traktor Scratch line was developed before Traktor Scratch, and as such there was plenty of crossover between both lines of products. This led to Traktor Scratch having a slightly lopsided focus on Traktor Scratch. The remix software was great and support for Traktor Scratch was robust, but the live software had some work to do. The Traktor Scratch range was released around the same time as the Traktor SP series, and they were both positioned for DJ/event/remix professionals and home and small business users alike. As NI took control of Rane and all Traktor Scratch units were packed up and shipped off to NI offices, some of the Rane Rane units were given away to Traktor Scratch customers on the promise of Traktor Scratch support.

Once it came out that Traktor Scratch would not be receiving the same love as Traktor SP, the Traktor Scratch line was axed. Rane DJ controller users were left scratching their heads, wondering what to do with the saved Rane Rane DJ controllers.

The answer to that was to use them as DJ mixers. The Traktor Scratch gear was abandoned and no longer made - the plastic cases were re-purposed for Traktor SP, as DVS hardware is typically considered a dead-end product. In fact, some of the Rane DJ/Traktor Scratch hardware was re-released as the very Traktor SP series. The Rane DJ Controller hardware was also re-released under the Traktor Scratch name. The controller hardware was bundled with Traktor Scratch Live, making the Rane Rane DJ Controller into a separate product but with the same Traktor Scratch Live interface. This means you could plug a Rane Rane DJ Controller into Traktor Scratch Live - and if you had Traktor Scratch Pro installed you could use your Rane Rane DJ Controller just like any other mixer. 84d34552a1
